can anyone tell me if this has a tap-tempo button? I've seen a number synths without it and it really is retarded to have the arpeggiator controlled by a track-wheel... it makes the device virtually useless in lave settings!

Extremely weedy bottom end. Couldn't agree more with other posters' reference to VSTs....it doesn't even sound like a GOOD one. Sylenth or Dune smash this out of the water....and I am no SW+ over HW fanboy, I have plenty of both....this just sounds like piece of shit.

@Decimator7 Never one to resist a challenge, just been up in Sydney to indeed play one for myself at a mates studio, so not just noodling around in a shop. I absolutely stand by my previous comment, it sounds exactly like a budget VA synth {which is not being offensive as that is what it is). Good I am afraid is a subjective term and Fat? Well, I can only guess you have either no idea what the term means in this context or you are young and have little or no experience of genuine analogue gear.

About the pacth that will stop the Ultranova from producing sound - Novation event. returned an answer that said it is possible but it does not mean that the synth is bad. . . .so maybe it's a good thing :-)

It is actually possible to make a patch on the ultranova that will cause it to stop producing sound. I asked Novation about this but they gave me no answer to this phenomenon. Can any of you explain this?

my first impression is that it sounds way different from the KS versions which is a pity, to say the least. I really loved that aqua sound of the KS. It had a unique quality.

This Ultra has the pretension of being "gritty" but imho fails at it desperately. Of course it's just adapting to the tendency of those wanabe hiphop-meets-electro look-at-me-twiddling-these-but­tons-while-a-have-no-clue-what­-I'm-doing gangsta's ;-)

It's all about the marketing and that's sad. Very sad.

A toy, a control surface, and IMO, not much of a synth engine. At least not a great sounding one. Not impressed with the sound at all. Lots of gee-whiz bells and whistles, but it's no Moog or Omnisphere. Not even close. It's trying to be too many things to all people. Guess it'll sell to the pop-music people, but definitely not to the real synth guys. Too thin sounding.

Thanks for uploading this very useful video. I've been waiting to hear a YouTube video that demonstrates the wide selection of presets on the Ultranova. Unfortunately pre-release promo videos of this synth have failed to do this. It sounds great! Thanks.

Well it does help to have an extra hand these days what with all the midi controls about. This video wasn't to demonstrate the quality of the sound more what the Ultranova can produce, the type of sounds. We all know it would be of highest quality anyways, like any synth. Plus it was a trial for the new Videotrack by Alesis as we recorded it using an Alesis Videotrack (stereo condenser mic video recorder).

@SoundwareUK Thanks for this vid, it's very helpful. If the recording quality was too good, we'd think you'd doctored it so you can't really win! I think this is preferable, since as you say, we're learning the type of sounds in it, saves a lot of time when we come and test it. It's a shame your based in Newcastle. Coming from London to try stuff out wouldn't make sense for me !

Difficult to say how well it sounds if you don't record the audio straight from the board itself. With all that audio equipment in the back, couldn't you guys get a direct audio link to the resulting video? Maybe next time? :)

@CandlegravityStudio to be honest, synths recorded via a good mic over monitor speakers give a better feel for the final sound than all those direct-in recordings... they sound all the same, a gaia like an ultranova. but here I feel something personal. dont know why, but it keeps a bit of character. you hear it through the air like you would hear it if you were there.
