the spin retards, most likely, because of friction between surface of the rotor shaft impinging on its surrounding sheathing. How about replacing the shaft section at the sleave with arc magnets of like polarity, which will create a frictionless bearing point...

@lrb1e39 Don't need anything so complicated to design and manufacture - air bearings are well understood and WAY less complicated also they have the big advantage of having a fail-safe fall-back to a standard bearing surface if need be. Magnetic bearings have the "potential" for doing a great job but are extremely fickle to design and optimise for differing loads. An electro-magnetic bearing? Maybe, but then that's wasting much more power than an air bearing would require.

In reality, I suspect the turbine with a max of 5kw would average around 1kw, maybe 2 on a windy year at best.
