  • I saw this movie not to long ago it is a great movie and such a sad story ,those people did not deserve to get killed it was a tragic that should not have happened....this movie is a must see

  • i know the guy who played Reverend Grant Hudson

  • SpunkyChickenMind, may God bless you and the innocent mormons who died at Haun's Mill.

And may God bless you for your brethern who killed those awful woman and children who deserved to die at Mountain Meadows.

  • My 3rd great-grandfather was murdered at Haun's Mill in Missouri; I grew up Mormon being told that the people in this wagon train were murdered to avenge the murders in Missouri. I found out the church lied to me. These were pioneers from Arkansas, not Missouri. They had nothing to do with the killings in Missouri. They were, however, carrying gold. This is why they were murdered.

  • @KidsandKarma Also their livestock was stolen.

  • when does this movie come out on DVD?

  • It's already out.

  • Incredible! Finally! Always, "let's forget the past" combined with "the Gentiles persecuted us here, there, everywhere"; "Gov. Ford deserved to die alone and forgotten". "No one is wholly innocent" except the women and children at Haun's Mill.

  • I can´t believe you people; you are fighting for what? Religion!!!

We are in 2008, grow up a little bit and try to respect the ideas and opinions of everybody else.

No wonder the world is how it is, full of wars, killing, discrimination and stupidity.

  • History has seen it go both ways. No one is wholly innocent and I don't think anyone ever will be. Humanity just keeps making the same mistakes. "We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It's one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it's another to think that yours is the only path." -Paulo Coelho

  • It's really sad that in this day and age religious bigotry is still rampant. I think (and it's only my opinion) that 'September Dawn' should not be taken as anything but recognition and a way of remembering something horrible that happened a long time ago. Not a judgment. After all, that is what they're trying to make evident ie. the consequences of a superior and elitist attitude disguised as piety and righteousness.

  • Thank God and his son Jesus Christ for the real book of Revelations.

  • Once again an over dramatized, sensationalized movie flops big time at the box office. It's funny how some idiots feel they can actually learn history by watching anything produced in Hollyweird. sad sad sad

  • Amen.

  • There is a difference between rebuking and condemning.

  • I would also be disrespecting the commands of Jesus Christ given in the Bible and my mom.

Both have told me to rebuke people like you and so I do. You are clever people, but you are weak, and one day the world will be cleansed.

  • I condemn Mormons because I met a whole group of them who proved to me what mean/evil people Mormons really are. Would I be wise to make myself vulnerable to them again? Of course not I would be both disrespecting myself and the loving Mom the Lord gave me.

  • my friend joined the mormon church and at first i taught they were regular christians but now she's changed and doesn't talk to me anymore. all her mormon friends tried to convert me and after hearing about joseph smith and doing research on his lif and death i obviously refused and pretty much they told my friend to avoid me at all cost.

  • People who worship men condemn themselves.

    Obviousely!

  • Mormon's don't worship men anymore than righteous Israelites worshipped Moses. We believe God calls prophets, but we don't worship them.

  • I'm just interested in the story. "All have fallen short..." So why condemn a whole religious community.

  • The story is incredibly unclear. Men did evil things on their own accord. To call Brigham Young guilty for what these men did is ridiculous. There is no record Brigham Young having sufficient or accurate information about it, nor is it possible to prove that he commanded the massacre. It wasn't right that it happened, Mormon's acknowledge that. But all the addition lies are just ridiculous.

  • You are poorly informed and misinformed, Mole. One can deny the evidence only by calling witnesses and those who offer corrobative testimony "liars". But none of them denied Mormons involvement in MMM for over a hundred years; it was the Mormons who denied, who lied, and people died!

  • Proof of the guilt of Brigham Young is found in the book "The Mormon Mountain Meadows Massacre". Historically compiled by Steven E. Farley. I recommend this book to anyone looking for the truth about this.

  • Proof? Do you really believe that any truth at all can be determined from an event as corrupted and dissonant as this one? History is about what mayhapossibly could have occurred according to the likely flawed evidence that has survived to still exist in our time. To avoid the annoyance and confusion of always living this modern philosophy go ahead and say: this is probably how it happened. Be careful how you throw around a word like 'proof".

  • u know wat u are all so stupid!!

Why dont u get all up on the muslums for there multiple wife thing????

my church des not hav e multi wives!!!

    OK

    u are all just stupid!!

  • Proof of the guilt of Brigham Young is found in the book "The Mormon Mountain Meadows Massacre" historically compiled by Steven E. Farley. I recommend this book to anyone looking for the truth about this.

  • Oh no! Not SMPF38. This guy roams the internet looking for people to label "anti-Mormon", look at my blog.

As for Brigham Young. Has anyone researched his "blood atonement" doctrine? There was a doctrine of murder within the LDS church during BY time.

  • Joseph Smith Created the book of mormons by putting two stones into his hat and burring his face in them and dictated to others what to write. There was never any "Golden Plates"

a process of which he was arrested for years earlier while "treasure seeking" if you'd like to see that story click my name and see video titled "All about Morons.. err Mormons"

  • smpf38? You are a creep and a maroon and you have no idea what you are talking about everytime you open your geeky little PIE_HOLE!

  • FUCK "GROCERY OUTLETS"

  • Mormons are wolves in sheeps clothing.

  • I am so happy this film was made. It brings this tragedy to light so it can be discussed again. The victims, Fanchers, Dunlaps, Bakers, should never be forgotten. Brigham should have hanged for this! Read up and decide for yourselves.

  • This film is single is a good film for the detractors of mormones, is no evidence some that says to us that history is so as as it is seen in this film.

Single I will think that the church mormona I order this great massacre when one of the survivors says such thing and the evidence guarantees it, by while single he is specular that this step so as as shows it, do not judge in the ignorance.

  • Excellent portrayal of "Evil Mormons"!

    More than likely true?

  • Yes this event did happen, but nobody truely knows the facts of what happened on either side.

  • There were survivors of this event, as well as those who came out on the murdering side and their stories have been recorded, and have been told by their decendents.

The details are no more hazy than other significant historical events.

  • The movie was made by people that don't know the whole story and maybe don't want to know it.

  • Another true FACT that the church and its members DENY. Polygamy....Racism.....Murder.....Deceit.....on and on

  • Nobody truely know all of the facts.

  • pretty easy to understand, mormons killed people because their cult leader told them to.

  • I have read everything about what really happened and I know for a fact. Brigham Young didn't order the attack. He was ordering it not to happen, but the letter saying it got there a few days too late. And one other thing. Not all of them were killed.

  • Give me a break! Do you really think many who are reading this have a clue what you are talking about now? I never said that Mormons didn't have a history of conflict. Each one you mention was not quite in context. Besides that is not what is being discussed 'Mountain Meadows Massacre' on September 11, 1857 and the movie is the topic!?

  • I would like to ask you one question. How many people even those within the LDS Church have ever heard of 'Mountain Meadows Massacre' before this movie?

Also when you went to school was it in any of your history books? Like I said before I was born in the very town in CA where the Fancher/Baker wagon train was headed and I didn't even it until this year. It wasn't in my history classes! How about yours?

  • It wasn't taught in any history classes I had in High School and neither was anything about the Haun's Mill massacre, the Battle of Crooked River, the Missouri extermination order, the murder of Joseph Smith, etc. The unfortunate truth is: the light being shed on the event is one of overwhelming inaccuracy and serves nothing other than to reinforce old stereotypes.

  • I learned about it September 11th 2001. I was 13. We were watching the twin towers fall again on the news at school. My Mormon History Teacher told me that this day was going to mark a historical event from now on, but that it already should be a day that Mormons remember and lament. Then he told me about the Massacre. I've never read about it in a text book.

Sometimes people are just evil, no matter their religion. You can knock the folks who screw up and do wrong. But lay off the faith, okay?

  • Well, for starters Mormons know about the massacre from the Encyclopedia of Mormonism, that was published over 25 years ago. There have been articles about it in the official magazine of the LDS church, and historical LDS literature has had information for even longer than that. Gordon B. Hinckly dedicated a monument to the victims on the site of the tragic event. If any Mormon didn't know about it, it is because he/she hasn't paid attention to their own literature and events.

  • You want reality! Then be at Mountain Meadows on September 11, 2007! I'll be there along with 28 families (descendants) carrying 28 flags, connected to those murdered on the wagaon train. I will be watching at the grave site for a commemoration memorial service. When they mark the 150th anniversay that their loved ones were murdered by the Mormon Priesthood!

  • Were I a descendant, I would be bitterly disappointed in September Dawn for taking a real, genuine tragedy and making it into Hollywood fodder.

  • Awesome!

  • It is disappointing to see an event of history so shabbily depicted with very little basis in fact. As an objective observer I was hoping for a film that would fire debate about the facts of the event. This film is little more than propaganda with an overwrought agenda. No I'm not a Mormon, just a disappointed historian.

  • Read just a little bit about the 'uncensored' history of the Mormon church and then follow up with 'American History 101'???

  • The uncensored history of the Mormon Church AND history 101 distincly point to very different facts then depicted in this film. I have studied this event deeply and I believe that the story would have been better served with a more accurate telling instead of a made up love story and composite characters.

  • The descendants of these people petitioned the Mormon Church in 1999 for Federal Stewardship of this area so that they could access the graves and properly honor their dead. They were refused. In 2007 another request was made; again denial. Gordon B. Hinckley said, "it's not in the best interests of the church to allow federal stewardship in the meadows.

  • What the hell does that have to do with the accuracy of this film? This movie is not a referendum on Mormonism. It purports to describe historical events and does so in an inaccuarte way. Tell the real story, about the legacy of pain on both sides. That would have been far more compelling.

  • What does this have to do with accuracy of this film? Right and Wrong, that's what! You don't these descendants, but I know some of them. I was born in the very town in CA where this wagon train was doing nothing more than traveling across Utah. For that they were murdered by Mormon Priesthood Leaders...Why?

  • The answer is your comment has nothing to do with the accuracy of the film. You were pre-conditioned to comment negatively on Mormons as a whole and this movie just gave you an opportunity to do that. You don't care a lick about the real facts. One would think knowing the descendants would cause you to want their REAL STORY TOLD! Not some glitzy soap opera mock-up.

  • Have you even watched this video? Just who do you think Scott Fancher, Bob Fancher, Harley Fancher and the other descendants are!??? This movie is shedding a huge light on Mormonism whether you like it or not!

  • Let me repeat, I'M NOT A MORMON! I am someone who wanted the historically accurate story told. September Dawn barely describes actual facts. You are anti-Mormon and therefore are not an objective observer. Your comments are obviously highly biased and tainted. Read the book, "Burying The Past". A far better treatment of this story is contained there.

  • Sorry, I meant, see the film "burying the Past", not read the book. It's excellent.

  • You don't need to repeat anything to me, nor call me names. Why don't you read "Captain Alexander Fancher" by Burr Fancher.

Also the "Journal of Discourses" by the Mormon Church is also a great read, if you are looking for truth and history!

  • You are oblivious to any reasoning beyond your own short-sighted view. You have not, in any way, refuted the basic thesis of my argument which is that the film September Dawn is too ficticious to be considered anywhere near accurate. I WANT the story told, I just want it done with more consideration for REALITY!

  • And, btw, I've read Brigham Young's Journal of Discourses - from an objective view for their historical value. say what you want about Mormonism, but the history of that church is downright fascinating.

  • JD is 26 volumes and they are not all Brigham Young's...sure it is downright fascinating, as long as it is faith promoting!!? If not, then it isn't doctrine!

  • "Religious bias clouds September Dawn...The obvious bias in this scenario is so flagrant as to be cartoonish...[the authors] are anything but subtle with the film's message which can roughly be summed up as Mormons=bad, Protestants=good... Though Young's involvement has never been established, speculation about such has been a favorite pastime in anti-Mormon Evangelical circles for years, which is where this film was seemingly hatched." BoxOffice (dot) com

  • Awesome Movie!! Very well acted and historically accurate. Of course the LDS will wine about this movie, they refuse see the truth about their church.

  • Well the whole problem is that there never was or is conclusive evidence that Brigham Young ordered the massacre and that is why the movie is distorted. You can say what you want about Young but there is simply no evidence beyond speculation that he was directly involved in this. BTW, when are they going to make a movie about the good o'l Christians and Baptists cutting off Mormon children's heads at Hauns Mill?

  • Awesome Movie!! Very well acted and historically accurate. Of course the LDS will wine about this movie, they refuse see the truth about thei

  • Mormons will "wine" about 'September Dawn' that statement was a hoot! I loved it!

  • people with an axe to grind against mormonsism will of course have a field day with this film cant expect anything else.

  • The movie is stunning and compelling. Go see it. OSCAR TIME. And why in the world do very few of the SEPT DAWN VIDEOS PLAY ? I have seen only two that actually play. The rest are messed up.

  • The critics are trashing it. I saw it and really liked it, but to consider it Oscar worthy is rediculous.

  • No, I would disagree. It is not anti-mormon in anyway. If you listen to interviews of the man who made the movie, he has a very objective attitude about the historical information that is available.

If you worship some blind ideology you might see it as anti-momon. As I said the movie is not sensational but rather emotionally symbolic, modest, and no overtones.

  • I saw the movie, It's not accurate and it's not well done. It is completely biased and only portrays one very anti-Mormon version of the event. The Trailer is better than the movie.

  • Shut up you crybaby mormon cult follower. You guys cry about everything.

  • It's not a very good movie. Sorry. It's not though. Really. Obviously, I'm biased, but the film was really quite terrible. Laying aside historical accuracy usually makes it easier for the filmmakers to at least produce a decent film. But not this time. I guessed the ending twelve seconds in. A new record. Also the cinematography and editing was downright painful.

Love / The Crybaby Mormon Cult Follower

  • This movie, which I saw this morning, was certainly not about making money! It was not sensational in anyway. It was significantly meant to be historical.

  • historical yea right!!!

    that movie was crap!!!

  • A mormon didn't like the movie? Big surprise there. Isn't it time to wash your magic underwear? Shouldn't you be drawing out the plans for your planet? It's 12:15, you're late for your baptisms for the dead. Cult monger!

  • mormon =666=hell dont buy into them

  • there are hundreds of thousands of mormons in my city--and there is a ward on every square mile==I wonder if the mormon bishops are going to BAN this movie from being seen!! All the Mormons in my city have ties to UTAH and BYU and Brighan Young himself!

  • mormans dont watch rated R mormans anyway!!

  • Good grief, if you are a Mormon ~ you should be able to spell it correctly and your statement... "don't watch R momans anyway!" hehe...that was funny, just proves the mind control in the Mormon (LDS) Church has on which "MOVIES" you are allowed to watch! Ask yourself why is the Mormon (LDS) Church so afraid of SEPTEMBER DAWN?

  • Well put nauvoo. The irony in all of this is that the movie probably won't be that good. If it's anything like 'Young Guns', it will probably be corny at best. Yet the naive, paranoid, cultist Mormons are running around in fear and protest over it. All because LDS can't keep a lid on it.

  • Well, what do you expect from Hollywood? I've never seen a "historical" movie yet that they haven't twisted into pure crap. For example, Apocalypto and 300 have serious historical inaccuracies, but it doesn't matter to the makers because the point isn't to represent the truth. It's to sell tickets by making the most interesting movie possible.

  • mormons use the name jesus but they belive in that jo smith, not jesus,

  • you're going around to all mormon threads and posting this? While I admire your enthusiasm, you could really work on your delivery so that your posts are valued above spam posts.

  • no we dont think joseph smith is a god

the name of our church isnt the church of josheph smith

its the church of jesus crist of latter day saints!!

  • yes you do. You think men become Gods. So if Joseph Smith is the greatest man ever, then you would think he'd be God by now.

  • deconomou, why don't you just get over yourself? A religion is not a cult. Mormon's are CHRISTIANS! Look it up if you don't believe me. And they are NOT crybaby's. They are NOT cult followers. Read a book that doesn't involove the genre "Anti-Mormon". You have a discrimination problem, if you're spending your time arguing about this kind of stuff. And don't bother arguing with me, because I won't reply back.

  • You are in a Cult...whether you want to believe it or not!

  • I'm a protestant christian and we do not recognize mormons, their cult practices or their cult doctrines. Joseph Smith burns in our hell.

  • Your hell doesn't exist. And you don't have the ability to send people there anyways. Good try though. Honestly, Mormon's don't care if you recognize us or not. We know we are Christian.

  • Real Christians don't recognize you as Christians because of your cult practices, polygamy, and brain washing your women into being just machines to pump out your mormon babies. You're just trying to take over by having 8+ kids per family and then telling your wives some bullshit that the more kids they put out that they will get into heaven or some crock of bull. I have mormon friends and they let me into your circle of cult knowledge.

  • Wow. Funny stuff! Thanks for being an idiot you "real" Christian. Abraham had multiple wives, I guess he wasn't Christian either though.

  • Lol way to be a fag. Just rewrite the Bible and pick and choose what you want people to believe, oh wait you already did.... "the book of mormon". The regular Bible just isn't good enough for you, you need to put made up garbage in it and twist stuff around. Fuckin idiots

  • If you really believe that, you are the idiot. The Book of Mormon is not "made up". In fact, do the research and you'll find out how unlikely that is. If there is more that supports the bible, what is wrong with that? We should just throw it away? Don't be such a BIGOT. Grow up and stop believing everything you hear.

  • church of brain washing and knocking up your wives with 9 kids, its a pathetic cult.

  • "This story is as accurate as you would want a theatrical movie to be"

lol, creative liberties anyone? take it for what it's worth, but regardless of how strongly you feel about this subject, if this movie is your only source/reason for being upset your opinion is worthless.

  • The real question is why not the Mormons? Hollywood has made plenty of movies about the atrocities other religions have done in the name of God. Why should the Mormons dark history be exempt from being shown. Tons of movies have been made that portray the darker side of mankind. We should view them and hopefully do better. So the Mormons have a darkside. It just shows they are as human and fallible as the next. So calm down and take something positive away from the history lesson.

  • One more thing. What would happen if we made a movie about extreme muslim terrorist saying muslims are murderers? What would happen if we made a movie about Martin Luther King telling about him as a riot starter? The aclu would be all over us. This movie is based on a true event full of misquotes and false statements.

  • "In regard to emigration trains passing through our settlements," Young continued, "we must not interfere with them until they are first notified to keep away. You must not meddle with them. The Indians we expect will do as they please but you should try and preserve good feelings with them. There are no other trains going south that I know of[.] [I]f those who are there will leave let them go in peace."

  • 2 days after the incident they got a letter from brigham and this is a quote from it.President Young's express message of reply to Haight, dated September 10, arrived in Cedar City two days after the massacre. His letter reported recent news that no U.S. troops would be able to reach the territory before winter. "So you see that the Lord has answered our prayers and again averted the blow designed for our heads," he wrote.

  • brigham young did not order the massacre. The men who ordered the massacre wrote a letter to brigham but carried out actions on their own.

  • coltjax? Did these people outside muslims? and mormons? use such profound trickery? and treachery? in order to commit murder? Let me know?

  • Brigham Young was a criminal not a prophet. Who cares one way or the other. All I need is Jesus!

  • he was a prophet not a criminal!!

  • He was a religious dictator/fanatic. Get over it all ready.

  • he was not a religious dictator/fanatic!!!

hitler was a dictator not Brigham Young!!

  • Truth hurts, doesn't it?

  • brigham young was hitler

  • A profit yep! A true prophet? Nope, 56 of his prophesy did not happen! One false prophesy = false prophet! Why don't you look into the uncensored history of Mormonism?

  • people have used religion as an excuse too murder since the beginning of time. Catholics, protestants, muslims, mormons. Religion is just mankinds excuse to kill.

  • "Jehovah created me to be your God on earth!!!!??? LIES LIES AND ALL LIES..BY never said that. This film depicts half truth and half lies.... THE DEVILS TACTICS to lure men to believe!!...

  • This movie upsets me. As long as it does not seek to disprove the LDS church, or claim that Brigham Young ordered the massacre I will be fine. Seeing as that won't happen, this movie is a disgrace. True good people would not base a movie like this over a common belief, but a fact. Seeing as there are no facts to prove Brigham Young ordered it, nor to prove that he tried to prevent it, this movie is a joke.

  • Hey SHIB, There is also no evidence to support that Brigham Young tried to prevent the massacre. I will take at stab at guessing you are a memeber of the LDS Church?

  • seems to be a very dramatic movie. not based on historical facts though. there is no evidence at all that brigham young ordered the massacre.

  • look up the word evidence, cause you dont know what it means.

  • Look up the word truth...the evidence is here and the truth. Just as DNA evidence proved the Book of Mormon is fiction.

  • this is crap!!!

i am a morman i know what is in my church is true !!!

  • Look up mountain-meadows-massacre.

Either dot com or dot org.

  • Im so excited to see this I cant stand it!

  • I can hardly wait!

  • Just wait till this movie comes out to theaters, its gonna be great

  • Just use "deductive Reasoning" to figure out the truth These people had all the motive in the world

Paranoia x Blood atonement(beginning with their own people)= No chance in hell "Mormons" didn't set the stage for this "Utmost" of cowardly acts to take place It was everyone in the United States that killed their "Joseph Smith" and it was everyone in the United States who drove them out simply because no one would believe their outrageous claims Claims coming from an outright fornicator

  • Yeah that's not a biased article...It should have been called: "A MORMON Trial Lawyer Reviews Will Bagley's Blood of the Prophets"... LOL

  • Search google for "A Trial Lawyer Reviews Will Bagley's Blood of the Prophets" and read the farms.byu link

  • Search google for "A Trial Lawyer Reviews Will Bagley's Blood of the Prophets" and read the farms.byu link

  • The movie doesn't even get to all the drama available in this story! Google 1857massacre for Frank Kirkman's history pages for stunning articles on the mormon participants, other mormon atrocities, newspaper articles, depositions, journals, survivor accounts, letters, confessions, a look at Brigham Young's involvement!! No wonder the church doesn't want anyone to remember this stuff! How could you look into this church inspired bloodbath without drowing the image of God?

  • Hey moron you are extremely inaccurate

  • This movie is extremely accurate and morons are about as predictable as morons are because they follow angels instead of God even though the Book commands against the following of angels I dont know who these morons think they are You are a bunch of liars and You should be ashamed of yourselves

  • If you type in the keywords "Bagley" and "September Dawn", you will find a historian that agrees with this film. It's Will Bagley...he wrote a great book about the Mountain Meadows Massacre called "Blood of the Prophets" - Some other great books on this subject matter are: Mountain Meadows Massacre and Under the Banner of Heaven.

  • This is going to be a big movie in Utah if anyone let's it play here!

  • I think this movie looks AWESOME!

  • So why is it that so many "Historians" find this movie "Extremely" accurate. OH I get it! You are the almighty chosen, and are you above the truth?

  • Can you provide proof that historians found this movie to be "extremely" accurate? Movie makers take a true story and make changes to it to peak the audience's interest. They make a person say or do things that really didn't happen.

Take a look at Titanic. Most of it was true, the boat did hit an iceberg and sink. I'm sure there was no diamond necklace, no nude painting, no forbidden love.

  • well, it's not supposed to be a documentary, it's "inspired by actual events"...

  • This movie is extremely inaccurate

  • how?

  • Brigham Young was a wonderful leader, he never claimed to be god, he was a prophet.

The Mountain Meadows Massacre was a horrible tragedy, but it was NOT ordered by Brigham Young.

The man responsible for this was tried, and executed by the united states government.

  • lol i love how people pretend they know what leaders did and didn't do. We never know...

  • ONE man was tried and executed. Did he act alone?

I can't say I know Brigham Young was responsible for the attack, but I do suspect he was.

  • only mormons recognize him as a prophet the world sees him as a murder.

  • Then explain how and where?

  • Extremely inaccurate? You know nothing of Mormon Church doctrine then!

  • @nauvoochristian I know the history well. It is a part of my family history. The movie's Romeo and Juliet, i.e the love story was total Hollywood but the rest is pretty accurate.
