Laura's going to need a new purse when she leaves the museum.
Oh wow, the Countess looks so freaky in comparison to the other bodies, and yet so boring aside from that.
More scents coming from the magnifying glass.
The Countess has a play button attached to her apparently, seeing as the music resets every time you interact with her after getting the smelling salts.
Personally, I think that's a better way to make the puzzle... it's better than a player risking accidentally running out of snake oil between the snake fiasco and the start of Act V.
Took me a while to have the nerve to finish, what with the disturbing scenes and all, but I found myself laughing it off by the end of the vid, with the musical corpse.
Laura: .... *pokes the late Countess with magnifying glass*
i was always freaked out by the bluefaced countess too...
but! my brother and i played this game together back when it first came out on cd-rom, (he was about 6 or 7 at the time)...and it was his turn to play at this point....he saved his game as "countess bit by a snack"
so now, every time i play it, i save my game as "countess bit by a snack", and laugh at the idea that it was just doritos that did her in.
Hm...the curious thing is that we only see his purse on the scene where she had finally changed her dress and the cab takes her to the museum, and it's not that big...
...but I think a corpse wouldn't be what Laura would place in her purse, although it is evidence as well :P
That's... not creepy. I laughed when I saw that. That, combined with Olympia's overly calm handling of the situation makes my LOL every time I see it.
YES IT IS!! :( :( It gave me horrible nightmares when I was little! I mean, okay, NOW I find it kind of comical, but even so, making gurgling/gagging sounds and having your eyes bulge out like that while you're dying is still creepy to me. Especially when you play the game's voices with it.
I may be wrong, but I think the thank-you note from Lori O' Shannon is a reference to Lorelei Shannon, one of the supplementary writers for this game and the designer of King's Quest 7 and the (incredibly horrible) Phantasmagoria 2
I had a feeling it might have been referencing one of the Sierra team as well, although I'm not very familiar with most of the names... I only know a "Lori" exists because when you play The Castle of Dr. Brain and do the word search, a lot of the team's names are hidden in there and Lori was definitely one of them.
I don't know if anyone else said this, but Jack the Ripper would use grapes to lure in his poor (as in lacking in money) victims, as grapes back then were a food for the rich. He'd leave the grape vines by their bodies when he was done with them. Great LP by the way, never even heard of Laura Bow until you started playing them but they're great =D
Even though I know her legs have been curled up with her, I always think she's become a midget when she's tied up on the table...
In any case I always think the countess got tied up during her nightly mudmask - She's not sick looking, She's having a beauty treatment! After all she was flaking earlier ;p
I never saw her as a midget when she was tied up on the table, but I always found that her head looks REALLY strange from far away in that scene. Seriously, what IS that???
you know what's interesting? they suspect Laura Bow for all the murders--but it obviously takes either one strong person or TWO people to commit the murders. look at the odd poses and places where Laura finds the bodies....how can someone like her do all that?
The clock continues on to the time displayed from merely looking at her corpse, which is why all nosy reporters must be thorough in their observations. Otherwise, time marches on! I've been loving your LP so far, looking forward to the final two acts. It's a good thing you covered the easily-missable item in the Living Armor exhibit; I don't see how most people are to come across it otherwise. :/
Actually, I'm pretty sure that looking at the corpse alone doesn't trigger the clock... In my experience the trigger has always been grabbing the smelling salts.
Thanks for the compliments! :) I really love this game and I try to cover everything humanly possible!
Point. I remember when I was younger and I first played this game. I was alone at home and when I saw Ziggy's head I had to turn the computer off and take a deep breath. O-o
You would think that if you planned on killing a group of people the first person to die would be the annoying reporter. If not then the second after she started snooping around. Guess this killer isn't as smart as we thought.
Always a chance that is true, with the timeline and all and if the killer knew that Laura was a good snoop then there wouldn't be a game to play. On the note of errors, the first time I got to play this game I got quite awhile before it clicked on I was using windows ME, then it crashed and wouldn't work again. Thank god for Dosbox.
I always though it ironic that the only one who even thought she could be a good reporter or important enough to be reporting about the robbery was Yvette, Everyone else is just a bit like "Oh she's a woman, and well she says she's a reporter... " Hmm I don't know what Olympia's opinoin is on the topic tho. Maybe she's full of the woman power herself. ^^
Well, there was a point at the beginning of the game where Yvette agrees with Laura, who sarcastically says something like, "Oh no, as if such an important paper would assign a mere girl like ME to do such a big assignment!" "Oh, you are probably correct, Miss Bow."
Haha, that ending was hilarious! I never ran into that particular bug when I played the game. The one I use to always get was getting stuck in the taxi for hours and not being dropped off by the cabbie.
It's weird, but depending on which copy of the game I'm playing, I'll get different bugs... I've never gotten this one before; only the taxi one, the random "error" that closes the whole game for inexplicable reasons, people walking up walls, and the safe not being able to open. :/
Oh I wish I still had my save game where the Countess was stuck in the roof of the masters gallery... She was still there after her death, but she was simply "too busy" to speak with me...
Btw, I'm not sure what's more disturbing; the fact that Olympia is unfazed by the dying Countess, or the fact that she's unfazed that the Countess is tied up on her desk.
I imagine as the game went on, the programers were running out of time/memory, so they cut putting your fingers in the last few corpses' mouths and took away the option to fondle them. Unfortunate, but you have to cut somewhere.
LAURA WATCH OUT! A POISONOUS SNAKE!

That face the countress makes also cheeped me out. It's a shame you can't do as much with her; maybe they were pressed for time.

Olympia is quite the morbid one, yes.
The Countess dying turned her clothes blue along with her skin?
SchlossRitter 1 year ago
Yep, I think they...almost everyone anyway. This is almost as disturbing as what happened with Ziggy...

BUG in this part. You don't have enough snake oil to use on the snake, but it worked. You should use the bottle three times in the oil on the lab.
ADVRipper4EVER 2 years ago
Are you sure about that? In every version of this game I've played, I've been able to use the snake oil four times before it runs out.
hercrabbiness 2 years ago
Yes. I have only the Disk Version. You can use the oil in the snake one time. To capture the snake, the player must refill the botlle in the lab.
ADVRipper4EVER 2 years ago
Huh, well that is interesting!

But yeah, I remember watching my parents play this game as a kid; Carrington and Countess's dead bodies both creeped me out.

How do I get into this game so late! Stupid YouTube, you do not tell me of updates in time!

This just has to be one of the most fightening, creepiest, disturbing scenes in the game. I mean, look at the Countess' face....
Actually, I can't. Too frightening. @_@;;
