@mrsspike1 The client is covered as much as in any massage, except all of the parts (legs, back, glutes, etc.) are uncovered all at the same time so the long flowing strokes can be performed. I am sure there are lomi lomi practioners in Maryland, and it is perfectly legal. Remember, this is a professional and sacred Hawaiian massage. While it may be different, it is totally proper and is always performed in a professional manner.

How do you get the oil off of everything?

@3344utube Aloha. We just wash the massage table with dishwashing liquid and water. Get the table really soapy than rinse it twice and dry it. You have to have floors that can be cleaned. We have cork but other types of flooring work also. Just no carpet!

@3344utube We use organic coconut oil. We heat the oil up by placing small bottles in a crock put with a little water. The speed varies and depends on your intention with the treatment. Faster is more invigorating and slower is more relaxing as a general rule. Mahalo for your question.

how do you clean the table between clients?

@dolly84ca We just clean the tables with dish washing liquid. We use three clothes and soap up the table good with the first one. Then we rinse with the second one twice. It is important to rinse twice. Then we dry with the third one. You have to clean in the crease where the table folds and around all the edges. If possible we leave the table in a partially folded position to allow the hidges to dry better. Of course, you have to clean the floor as well.

Since there is alot of use of the forearms in lomi lomi is it necessary for the masseuse to shave/wax their arms or is it irrelevant to the massage? Im assuming the amount of oil could tame down the hair, so if this is a dumb question do disregard :) great video!

@Xyzzulee Aloha. Actually, that is a good question. You do not have to wax your arms to give a lomi lomi massage. You are correct that the amount of oil compensates for the hair. The massage does feel a little different to the recipient if you have a lot of forearm hair and the recipient does not have hair (like a woman), however, it does seem to interfere with the satisfaction of the person receiving the treatment. We have therapists with lots of arm hair and they still have lots of clients.

However, it is not the right treatment for everyone and those with cultural differences sometimes do not approve of the minimal draping and amount of contact between the practitioner and the person receiving the treatment. Yes it is very relaxing! There certainly are some similarities to Swedish massage, however, there are many differences also. The main difference is that Lomi lomi uses long flowing strokes so that the entire body can be massaged at the same time (instead of one section at a time as in traditional Swedish). The underside of the body is also massaged, especially when the client is in the face up position (that is why there is no bottom sheet). Mahalo for your comment.
