He failed because his regime made too many stupid mistakes, like for example freezing jet fighter development for two years when they had the lead, and not developing a long range heavy bomber when they had the chance. They failed because they did not deserve to win. They got arrogant and overconfident as a result of their initial successes, and bled the world dry.

No doubt, not to sound like a fascist but I would rather live under the rule of Hitler then of Stalin. In Germany, large parts of private business remained. The military itself was being supplied by private companies. In Soviet Russia, everything was nationalized in the name of the Collective. In Russia, many millions of political prisoners were executed, in Germany, only Jews and the minorities were persecuted. You could live a peaceful life under the Nazis, not under the Communists.
