the axe fx is a cool device, but for 2 grand, totally not worth it. It still has that flubby response like all digital modelers have. Its very subtle but you can hear it when someone clasps a note shut, there's an airy WHOMP. Nobody likes a purist, and I still use modelers but I'd never be silly enough to spend 2 grand for one when Line 6 or Magix Vandal etc software produce the same results basically.
@f2kflyer it's sounds huge, I think that in my video demos some of the sounds comes from dual amps. These videos are quite old, my sounds have evolved a lot since
You look great! I have an xt live pedal pro Line 6 and the sound is very limited, we note the sound of transistors if you do not go through a good tube combo .. but the Axe-Fx has an amazing sound. .
We have the same guitar, Ibanez Prestige RG 2570 .. but yours is E (new model)
@Eliacer I improved most of my patches since that video, with more experienced, and the firmware upgrades. I also upgraded my guitar with two Dimarzio
I'm dying to get an Axe-FX Ultra. I've ran a Krankenstein with a TC Electronic G-Major for about 3 years now, and I love it, but this thing is just so VERSATILE! It'd be really nice to have when I'm out to do something more than screaming metal.
I just ordered an Ultra a few days ago. I have the POD X3 and Vox Tonelab SE. The Axe-FX is many times better in every department it makes the POD seem like a toy in comparison.
The SQ of the Axe-fx is SO good that some people expect to hear the odd order harmonics that usually come out of most live setups. When you hear the pure tone of your guitar without the bad stuff, you second guess what you're hearing - pure sweet tone with none of the side effects.
Quite frankly, this sounds very awesome. It's almost identical what my Pod X3 sounds through my Mesa 50/50. I know that comment will prolly piss a lot of people off but its true. I said almost identical because this does sound a little bit better but not paying $1000 (Axe-fx) or $1500 (Ultra) bucks more better.
Like I said man, Axe-Fx is definitely a lot better than POD on stand alone comparison. One on one. It costs about 3 times as much too. I plan on getting an Axe-Fx Ultra too down the road and retire my Pod X3 Live. I usually just play through my Laney GH50L which I absolutely love. Guitar straight into the noise gate and an EQ and then the amp.
Are there any overdrive patches on this thing which sound like a real, breathing Vintage Marshall on 11? All these sounds are great, but they are all shredder / 80's / Def Leppard / Whitesnake/ Paul Gilbert / Satch sort of sounds.
Anything that sounds like an old JMP being cranked through some greenbacks?
I tell you, the moment I hear an Axe-FX clip that sounds like Page's tone in The Song Remains the Same, then I'm buying it.
This is one of the best demos of AxeFx I've heard yet. The overdrive sounds are far more balanced sounding than many of the other demos. Not sure if you were using the processor by itself, but you've actually shown more of its capabilities than I've heard elsewhere. There's a great wooden tone quality that I hear in the overdrives that makes this seem really addicting. GREAT job with the playing as well.
Absolutely loved your video...could you please let us know what amp/cab/mic sim were you using around 3:55 and 4:12 just like jjtr asked also....really gotta know..! great tone ! also 6:16 if possible ....appreciate it !
ok, thanks. Congratulations for all the demos, great tones and great licks!. In this video, My favourites are the presets used at 3:40, at 3:55 and at 4:12.
lorenzo ens you re deaf...Compare it if you want but first he uses and ibanez like guitar...secondly you cant really hear those tubes from your mp3 sourced stereo...third it does sound as good. But then again everybody can post whatever on you tube. Your opinion your luck. Great job 5 star rating great sound great playing
"you cant really hear those tubes from your mp3 sourced stereo..."
You are wrong, or many thousands people on youtube are just wasting their time. If you KNOW HOW to record a clip, it'll show you a lot of nice nuances, even with digital compression.
BTW...This rig does not match the insane fanatical raves by its users. However, I for one, appreciate you not micing this with a camera mic. Man those people are pathetic..its like check out this mint sound..I mic'd it with my 14 cent camera mic. you know just like all the pro guitar recording are...hahaha
Yes, I am with you. If clearly lacks fatness, that crucial warmth only tubes gives you and make you stand over in the mix. If the prices will go down, and they will, then the machine will be interesting. Dude, just compare this tone to the plexish AC/DC Higway from hell. Oh please...

what do i need to have to have a rig with the fractal audio? just the axe and a cab? or is needed a power amp?
uva2323 1 year ago
@uva2323 I have only the axe and use whatever monitoring system is available. If you have your own monitoring system it's better
thibderob 1 year ago
@uva2323 if you want to use standard guitar cabinets you will definitely need a power amp of some sort.

this latency could be mortal! :(

@maxsalasr : patch change is very slow with the computer interface, but less than 25 ms with a midi pedalboard, so no problem for live use ;)

I bet this is NOT direct recording. What is your setup? poweramp, cab?
Great sound though.

Well this IS direct recording, my setup is guitar => Axe Fx => Creative Audigy line in. I don't own any poweramp/cab :)

Wow...I'm impressed. This might be the biggest selling factor for me. I'm going to get the axe soon.
What are are your pickups? Sounds really hot.
Thanks

DiMarzio The Breed in bridge, Air Norton in neck, which are not considered as very high output pickups

Line 6 POD X3 + Mesa Boogie 50/50 is almost the same price together as the Axe-Fx. So the Axe-Fx isn't "$1500 more".

Kudos.
