I'm thinking about making a Mac Pro-mini out of my Mac mini (mini sized mac pro design) but i want to upgrade the cpu to quadcore could the motherboard handle this? or would it even fit the cpu slot for that matter?
I have a 7200 rpm Hitachi travel star hard drive 4 gigs 2009 mini 2.0 I got 167 on xbench but I had some hungry stuff running that needs to stay on. I didn't do stock test. Absolutely no noise or heat problem.
If had tried that, I would have 6 hundred dollars worth of junk in front of me. wHEN i USED TO WORK ON MY CAR i ALWAYS HAD STUFF LEFTOVER I suck at that stuff.
Intel is phasing out the processors its using (65nm) so apple will have no choice but to upgrade to a 45nm Intel processor. I hope that when they do they also move to non-intel IGP graphics solution!
Say nice video. But I was wondering if there are any videos here on youtube that show how to install an Airport Extreme & Bluetooth Upgrade Kit For Mac Mini?
Including, the location of the Airport Card, Bluetooth card, Airport Antenna,Bluetooth Antenna, Mezzanine Board connecting board and Mount screws.
Would you be so kind to put the size of the mac mini.
I was thinking....get a 12" lcd monitor and a cool suitcase you are ready for the ultimate mobile machine. Am I wrong? (with wireless mouse-keyboard of course:)
It's a Socket 479 Mainboard so you can put every CPU up to the Core 2 Duo 2,33 GHz on it, without even having the need to change the heatsink. The Song I used for this video is called "White Wedding" and it's a cover from the Murder Dolls I think, don't know it exactly because I just picked it from my really huge list of songs.
Did you ever hear about the fact that DualCore CPU's are consuming muss less power than SingleCore CPU's and as a result the produced heat is much less?
No, core duos run really cold (compared to older models). On desktop machines the propeller on cooler does not even rotate when cpu sits idle or on low load.
i use smc fan controll and ive had it on 2500rpm when i was torrenting, limewireing, imovie exporting and plaing warcraft 3 and it reached 78degrees lol so id ecided to put it up to 5000rpm and it stayed just below 60
Does one have to apply some decent pull when removing the heatsink after the clips are removed? I've got the screws holding it in place out.

i just bought one with a Core Solo on eBay.
Due to the low prices of Yonah Dual Core processors, i'm gonna pump it up with a T2500 @ 2,0 GHz :D

yea, i would just take the whole thing apart, make a custom case for it, upgrade the RAM, HDD, and CPU with a better heatsink :D
i mean, its possible

Whats a 7200rpm hdd like in a mac mini?
Does it overheat after excessive hours?
If anyone has any comparison benchmarks of 5400 rpm & 7200 rpm temps, i'd be really grateful.

i agree that is a rly small heat sink i would have expected a small fan
dchains 4 years ago
and that tiny heatsink keeps a dual core cool? more like 130 degrees+

DanEng1982 5 years ago
but still that is a small heatsink anyone would admit it, and im not taking a stab at apple if that is what you think :)
nick20045 5 years ago
hey, you think i could put a core 2 duo in a mac mini? id so, what type of socket would i need? thnaks
jerrry13157 4 years ago
@DanEng1982 single core are 90nm/65nm and new intel dual cores are 65nm and lower so yes less power

If the fan runs @ 500 rpm (10 db) the CPU's temp is no more than 56 C°.
If the fan runs @ 2500 rmp (32 db), which is the maximum, the CPU's temp is never more than 20 C°! Try if you want...
