There were three reasons the trilogy failed: CBS' "To Tell The Truth", "I've Got A Secret" and "The Andy Griffith Show", in that order. All were popular, well-established hit shows that no one was going to turn away from.
Gina Gillespie was the sister of the "Mickey Mouse Club"'s Darlene Gillespie. She left acting a short time later and went on to become a lawyer.
For those who've never heard of this series, "KAREN" was the remainder of what had been "90 BRISTOL COURT" (an MCA "package") during NBC's 1964-'65 season [7:30-9pm(et), Mondays]. Three half-hour sitcoms {"HARRIS AGAINST THE WORLD" and "TOM, DICK AND MARY" were the others} were loosely connected by the fact they took place in the same location- an apartment complex known as "90 Bristol Court". Only "KAREN" (from the producers of "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" and "THE MUNSTERS") finished out the season.
I remember "That Was the Week That Was"! My older sister and brother loved it. The song is what I really remember. I was a little too young and didn't actually get into the show though.
The sponsor bumper V/O here was the late Jerry Damon. (Having heard him announcing a 1956 episode of "X Minus One," I can tell his voice and the qualities thereof.) At the time "Karen" was on, he was also the announcer on NBC's U.S. version of "That Was the Week That Was"; unfortunately, due to his association with that show, Mr. Damon was forever called a "comedian" in TV reference books and on some web pages.
