Same here. I'm not sure what to think of that comment. Maybe he has better reason for saying that, but it doesn't come out in the clip above, at least. I think it is too complicated to make such a claim; the internet is too pervasive to track its influence fully. But his general beliefs about media and advertising make sense.

I think he was referring to making music in general, and being in a band. He's not saying the internet isn't of use, but that you don't need all the extra stuff to make music - that's what punk was about (his reference). Some bands are true...xx
