It's not a question of what pigeon-hole the music snobs want to cram music into. It's a question of how well the music is done. There was a time when no one believed that heavy metal and progressive rock could be fused into something new that transcends both genres. There is no reason why progressive metal cannot also fuse some aspects of pop into an excellent result.
