My grandpa worked in one of those buildings for 55 years. I did not know him I think it was some type of factory. If someone knows the name of the buildings maybe that would ring a bell of which one he worked in thanks.
Hey, I remember this! And I remember not going to see it, because "implosions" were all "the rage" back then, and I saw it live on one of the news stations... Then, they built a mall that charges too much for rent so no stores can survive... Vacant storefronts: Sounds like Scranton to me! ;-)
@barry23232323 Dis ain't "ghetto ebonics," dis is da way old Scran'ntonians tok. Day tok about dis here ting, and day tok about dat dare ting. Tings change a lot here, so dare used to it. Da 'lectric city, is what day call Scran'n. Dis includes Da Mall, and Gertrude Hoks (ya gotta' go true Dummore ta get dare).
Wow! I remember this!!! What a big deal this was for Scranton. It was like the coolest thing ever for Scrantonians. And the Kamakazi Camera was all the rage.
if u stream or stickcam around 92 they should have stream this live. long before the web blow up. i feel old now so long ago. crappy steam town but the train station is pretty nice if you like trains. part of pa history that is for sure.
OMG! I was in 3rd grade at John F Kennedy when we stopped class to watch this on TV. I remember it like it was yesterday! Hard to beleive it has changed so much. Even the past 8 years I have been gone the downtown area is so diffrent!
I remember watching this from the hilltop of the U of S's campus. I also remember the fire a few months later when they were building the mall. I lived in the hill section then.
are they ever going to get Buona Pizza (it thts how you spell it) to move becuase like if they are re-doing that part of Lackawanna Ave, then they really need them to move. its gunna look ugly azz hell cuz everything else will be nice except for that. itll stick out like a sore thumb.
The rooftop cam did "kinda" work but we lost signal about 5 seconds after the roof fell in. I was working for WYOU at the time and was watching the live feed off the camera. I'm sure there is footage buried somewhere...We setup at least two decks to record just that feed alone.
I had already left the station, but if I remember correctly they had placed a camera on the roof of one of the imploded buildings to capture that angle on the explosion. Maybe it didn't work?
I did live there in the 80's and it was a great news market until the corporations bought the stations and killed it. THAT is really depressing.
haha awesome. i remember this well, along with what a big deal the mall was when it first was built. ah, back in scranton's true ghost town days. those who think it's depressing and crappy now didn't live here throughtout the eighties.
Wow, that well worded reply has really convinced me of what you are saying. The way you didn't use any punctuation, or capital letters makes it even better. Atta girl.

Red Barons were one of the best AAA teams that summer as well. Scranton was feeling big.
I would drive from the Poconos to Dickson City. Steamtown had little I liked.
