  • With hearing and touch improved like a savant, I reckon a blind person could get very clear readings of detailed resolution on the tongue. Frightingly quick, I dare guess :)

I wonder if colours has their own taste...

  • The National Statler Center for Careers in Hospitality Service is a recognized leader in the field of hospitality and contact center training. The first and only program of its kind, the Statler Center provides visually impaired, blind and physically disabled individuals with the right tools for successful careers in the multi-billion dollar hospitality and contact center industry.

  • Graduates of our one-of-a-kind program are computer-literate, equipped with a thorough knowledge of industry standards, and ready for successful, long-term careers. Potential employers are hotels, convention centers, travel agents, call centers, etc. I am pleased to report that to date, almost 400 students have achieved a remarkable average job placement rate of approximately 82 %- nearly triple the national employment figures for this population!

  • We operate three 10 week classes in Buffalo and all of our training is FREE to the individual. We also offer one training session per year off site as well. So far we’ve been to Orlando Florida, Albany New York and Las Vegas, Nevada. All of our students participate in a hands-on externship and often many students are hired from the same externship company!

  • The Center is proud to announce that we have just graduated our 38th class and to date, students have been hired by companies such as Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hyatt, MGM Grand, Hampton Hotels, Disney World and Travis Air Force Base as well as other business. We have also graduated students from over 32 states and we have an international presence, welcoming students from Jamaica, Canada and Armenia!

  • There are also other interesting technologies complemetaries with this one as it is EYE2021.

  • It can't be rerouting. How could it reroute that fast so the moderator could see? If someone writes on your hand something, you should be able to say what is he writing/drawing and you don't even have to see it. It's imho more like that you feel a circle on your tongue, so you then imagine there is something in form of circle in front of you. And tongue because it is the most sensitive thingy on human body.

Anyway it's a bloody good tool!

  • Oh the grid matrix is now 759x759

his device pictured was 128x128 so its basically a HD television Vs a 50's television.

  • its still developing, but its being applied more and more. NOVA revisited this subject in 2010.

  • God I love science.

  • So what happened now? this video was uploaded in 07

  • where to buy one please?

  • Why are people always so impaitiant and negetive when something, an idea, a theory pops up and isn't imidiantly proven and made avalible for everybody. Money, tests, safety, comfert, ect. There are so many thing that go into making everything and anything, don't rush it, hope that it'll work.

  • its 2011

  • I dont think this works. Why dont i see my blind brother using this?

  • @britttb4646 There is a point where technology has to be reasonably affordable to make and sell. My blind mom isn't using it either.

  • Comment removed

  • @britttb4646 I don't understand. You say that it's very cool, but fairly stupid? We were studying it in my class, apparently it is still in the developmental stages. You sound unhappy that your brother does not have it, then you say you would rather he not see. This is just one of the many ways one can live with blindness, we can't "leave them alone" because we are constantly seeking to improve our circumstances. If another blind person wants to use it, why shouldn't they?

  • lol why not use a digicamera as a camera so blind people will actually see...colored o_O

    love technology

  • @PherVented I imagine the problem isn't the camera, it's finding the sweet spot between electrodes/electrode patterns, the signal, and the brain's capability to rewire itself. It isn't like turning on your laptop webcam.

  • they still have this in 2011, i imagine that letting blind people have so much reliance on this will be torn apart by health and safety (sadly).

  • I need to get one of these and put the camera on the back of my head... that way I'll be able to have "eyes in the back of my head" so to speak :P

  • wow i have a freand whos dad is blind and hes a cabnet bulder,he does the best work around,we write on his arm to talk hes blind and defe

  • 2011 now... updates anyone ? twitter @simbalevo please

  • God bless the blind...i know we all have it very hard at times, but not like them. Gotta give them all the respect they deserve.

They are some of the toughest people out there.

  • @mhaze210

God can't bless the blind because god doesn't exist, humans invented gods in pre-scientific era to "explain" things.

  • @mhaze210 I know man... one time I was food shopping and I saw a blind person and I couldn't stop crying for 2 hours. I would give my life to cure all blind people. God bless them.

  • this stupid advertisement is supposed to play, then the vid but I can't see anything. (HA!) What the hell?

  • @HWolsiefer Use your tongue.

  • 0:01 post this in every vid to skip ad

  • @dragonbrain111 its already in everyvideo and it doesnt work so stfu

  • they got lazy it 2010 now :/

  • wow, these days people are so smart!I think they should give it to the blind for free cuz they cant see!!!!!!

  • wow these das people are sooo smart.I think it should be free to the blind cuz they dont see!!!!!

  • my dads blind i think ill tell him bout this divice

  • i wonder who much it cost to have this device? can a poor blind afford it?

  • @jdoumbe

The Chinese will make it & sell it through WalMart.

  • utube feature this video.

  • amazing technology hope more blind can see through this ....

  • amazing.. omg...

  • @niamtxiv you think thats amazing,in 2003,scientist have actually created artificial sight for the blind, you have to have surgery but once you do,they connect your brain to some kinda special shades, and it looks just like a video camera to them.

  • i just saw this on GMA too. this is amazing!

  • I just saw this on GMA. Way cool!

  • It's 2010. Why don't I see blind people with this?

  • @StuarttStewie It's 2010. Maybe they came up with something more advanced.

  • @StuarttStewie Of course you own an electric car that you charge up using your own wind mill & solar panels.

  • @StuarttStewie Maybe late because it had a bad side effect, who knows. After all, this is a brain "re-wiring".

  • @findingadly You "re-wire" your brain every time you learn something new. It's just a common expression, nothing spooky or bad.

  • when i read the title i thought it was a spoof or something.

a guy walking around with his tongue out licking stuff lol

  • Cool they can see but now they can't talk.

  • this is crAzy..i have a little cousin that is blind...where do i go to get this technology..i really want my little cousin to see somrthing.

  • this is so beyond amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • @16ar there is a way to see using echolocation. i know it sounds weird but it actually works.just search "guy sees by using echolocation" and you'll get lots of hits.thousands of blind people use this to see.it is possible that you can be taught it.i hope this help some.

  • i wonder what eating looks like from the inside o_O

  • This is neat - and not nearly as creepy as the dude with a tooth in his eye.

  • this is amazing, what I find more interesting is that by the way he says it at the end, you can tell out of all the things in the world he misses seeing the most, it's facial ques, like a smile, or a frown. I think we all take that for granted.

  • hi any bodyt can help me ?

i need to know how i can get this new technology and where do i have contact to .

  • @sohrabsohrab1977 try contacting CBS through telephone and ask them directly

  • Anyone who liked this should read The Brain That Changes Itself. The book is all about this kind of stuff, totally amazing.

  • un freakin believable

  • Roger Bain looks like Ron Perlman (Hellboy)

  • amazing!

  • Hope that gadget will cure blindness.

    What a technology.

  • hi does anyone knows which mobile phone would be the best for blind people spmething like vpice control features maybe

    thank you

  • @rikinoki Sime of the newer Nokia phones s really good. I have a low vision myself, and i know a lot of blind persons. The 6303 is one of the best because mMobile Speak and Talk work really well with this model. Contact me if you need more information. write me on my profile. Cheers, Nadia.

  • That blind man looks like Hell Boy!!!!

  • They didn't even mention the late Paul Bach-y-rita, the man behind this breakthrough.

    For shame.

  • stfu you retard seriously, Vaccines prevent more deaths than the problems they cause.

seriously you antivaccine people are just such fucking idiots

  • tell me, if I don't take vaccine and if I got sick and pay for doctor etc then what's the problem? if you'd take vaccine then you will be safe. so why do people force other people to do something?

  • its when retards endanger children by making them not have important vaccinations that its a problem

  • And tell me why it is a problem? If you endanger your family by deciding that you don't need a job, you can just sit in front of tv for whole day, it is fine. But if you decide that you don't want your kid to take vaccine, it is bad. Yes, there are some vaccines that kids should have, but it should depend on their parents (or anyone else who's taking care of them). Human kind should develop, it shouldn't care for dumb people and encourage them to make more kids.

  • Not getting vaccines also puts babies who have not yet had all their vaccinations in danger.

  • @kotowate look up herd immunity- individuals choosing not to immunize affects us all, especially those unable to use vaccines.

  • woa nice, OMG at 2:50, THAT'S BOB ROSS'S VOICE?!?!?

  • As a compleatly blind person I think it would be great to use this. it would free me from my cane and allow me to get around like anybody else

  • how did you get to this and type that???? Then again you wont be able to respond

  • Do you use echo location as well?

  • how would a blind person know what the logo looks like?

  • The machine 'paints' the shape of the logo on the tongue using electrical impulses delivered to the tongue.

  • when he was able to "see" they've shown few logos to him and he was able to recognise them as he had learnt them

  • Yup, would be more interesting to 'see' if there was generalization.

  • that device looks like what they use to take dental x-rays with. interesting.

  • =D We take so much for granted. I hope he gets to see smiles soon ^-^.

  • I don't care who was responsible for this. This is amazing.

  • "I don't care who is responsible for this. This is amazing."

Good point. It looks like EntinuludeX just got PUNK'd.

  • Punked..??

  • Stop disrespecting the blind

  • "Miracle" of the eye my ass. Take that theists. ANOTHER VICTORY FOR SCIENCE!

  • Thank you JESUS for directing that scientist.

    Whooooooooooooo!!

    haha

    Big Daddy

Poor liberals...they can't win for losing!

    Whooooooooo!!!

  • Oh please, explain what elaborate obfuscation you'd have to go through to draw parallels between a 2000 year old dead Jewish rabbi, liberal or conservatism, and this advancement in technology.

God doens't heal blind person, so man does it, and god gets the credit anyway? ROFL.

  • "Explain what elaborate obfuscation you'd have to go through to draw parallels between a 2000 year old DEAD Jewish rabbi..."

Hmmm....you've got a FLAWED premise there, pal.

    haha

    Big Daddy

    Jesus is ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Whooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

  • Flawed how? Nobody is that old and still alive. Alive how?

  • "Nobody is that old and still alive. "

    Ummm...JESUS is.

    "Alive how?"

    I'm happy to report....

He has been RAISED FROM THE DEAD!!

    Whooooooooooo!!!

    Big Daddy

  • 2000 year old guy raised from the dead? How?

  • "2000 year old guy raised from the dead? How?"

    Is this NEWS to you?

Well then. I'd have to say it's GOOD NEWS!

    haha

    Whooooooooooooo!!!

    Big Daddy

  • It's only news to me if it's supported by evidence which EXPLAINS HOW. Otherwise it's just rumor, conjecture, or hearsay.

So again, 2000 year old guy raised from the dead? How?

  • "It's only news to me if it's supported by evidence which EXPLAINS HOW"!!!

Hmmm...I see the problem. You are lacking in FAITH.

"Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" is probably the best prescription I can provide for you at this point.

Aside to audience ---> What's sad is I think this poor Entinlude X fellow is actually PROUD of the fact that he is lacking in faith.

    Tragic, huh?

    Big Daddy

  • What do I need faith for?

What do I need blessings for?

Why would I believe without seeing, when I could have evidence instead?

What's tragic about requesting evidence and not being credulous?

  • this is incredible news!

  • OK you're extremely retarded. Did you not hear them say that the brain can be retrained?

  • ShadeSlayer1991,shut thaa fuck uhp ! yuuh sound so fuckinq dumb !

    ANYWAYS,,this idea is qreat !

  • shadeslayer1911,First of all we have eyes that work. So we dont understand the difficulties of learning echoloacation. And first of all Ben was the only person in the woerld who can do that and he taought him self. Think about it This guy is a lot older and when your younger you learn better. Not all of us can here as well as a fucking bat.

  • also one more thing Ben had a gift to do ecolocation its not every day you come across someone with sensitive ears like that . Its a gift not a lesson

  • So wait can they actually see the image?

  • so he can't talk when he sees?

  • i like dat guy he is cool lol

  • funny... 2007. and yet we never hear about this technology. its 2009 now

  • i heard about it in 07... people need to pay more attention

  • its was on the news 2 weeks ago..

  • very good point...

  • @FeaRxUnLeAsHeD 2010 now

  • @FeaRxUnLeAsHeD 2010 going on to 2011

  • and in case there's no light ?

  • then you with eye's wouldn't see either.

  • I saw this. It's amazing!!!

  • OMG This is so amazing. got to spread this tech to all over the world

  • wow.. oh my god...

  • mad cool. :D

  • wow so amazing it rock!! .. :D:D

  • Blind people really deserve this technology.

  • just amazing

  • That is awesome.

  • i was thinking of this product a while ago! but my theory was thru sound, not the tounge. same concept but different inputs. then i saw it in a popular mechanics book. i got the idea from my ipod, i was listening to it and was falling asleep then i saw an image move across my mind when i heard a swooosh from a song. Cool invention!

  • This works because it is displaying an actual picture in the form of electrical impulses, Such as if you got a painting that had thick parts of paint that defined each object you would be able to define the shapes on it, you cant do that with sound because sound is a wave.

  • there is already a device that allows you to see with sound....it's called " The vOICe"

  • Yeah it's easy for you to say that when you have eyes that work.

  • Amazing! I hope this can become more affordable, so more people can experience it...

  • wow. just wow =) Go technology on this one

    <3 Devan Marie

  • omg thats amazing!

  • they invent stuff like this and you say you want to see in colours.. omg

  • Sorry I meant Ben underwood

  • nice but i wanna see in color

  • does a blind person really care if its color or not i wouldnt i jus wanna see period.

  • @tamahola they would if they just put it in colour they wouldnt care if its colour or not

  • Yeah! Go Packers and Go Madison! Woo!

  • For only $20,857

  • i dont understand how it works

  • Comment removed

  • Nobel, Nobel, Nobel

  • Agreed...

  • wow!

  • You should also check out artificial eyes. The next generation has a resolution of about 100x100.

  • amazing

  • Pretty sweet. Looks like blind people might have a bright future =P

  • thats so cool :-)

  • holy shit thats cool!

  • COOL

  • So awesome. If the technology really does get to the point of the third car picture, blind people should be able to learn to read normal books without a slow speech synthesizer and without having to wait for braille versions, and may even be able to look at websites like this one (though perhaps at very low resolution) by hooking that gadget up to their computers.

  • OMG

  • wow, i'd like to try that

    that is incredible

  • That's freaking amazing.

  • Wow, this is awesome!!!

  • maybe Youtube could have something like that, which comes out of the USB port someday.

  • i see said the blind man to his deff dog

  • this is freakin awesome,, man!!

  • Amazing..

  • Wow, that truly is amazing.

  • Very interesting story.

  • good stuff

  • fantastic!

  • Actually I remember seeing some kind of technology where they were re-tapping back into the brain and giving people sight, however it was also pixelated like that, and also black and white like that, a lot more like a scoreboard

  • Wow, thats truly amazing. I really hope this goes somewhere.

  • it's nice to see humanity do something good for a change.

  • It's truely incredible to witness the technological advances that we continue to make... there really are no words for it.

  • That is so cool!

  • If this works out, blind people will see again! Holy s***!

  • yeah now they'll know when im flicking them off.

Just kidding, i would never do that:)

  • cool!
