dude dont waste your time trying to explain capoeira to guys like that. unless they do it they wont see it as anything more than an exotic fighting style.
On you tube I keep reading about axe Capoeira being the fight rather than the game. From what I have read so far that is the difference between fun dancing and self-defence. Where can I see Capoeira "the fight"? I hope I have understood all the comments on youtube correctly.
Axe isn't a style of Capoeira, it's an organization. From my understanding they're very combat oriented as opposed to being playful like ASCAB. If you want see some more combative Capoeira Rodas, search for Capoeira Lucha... They're a tad more aggressive than other videos on Youtube. If you want to see a pretty affective Capoeirista in the MMA Ring, you should search "Marcus Vinicious Vale Tudo" He's pretty slick!
I think Capoeira would go nicely with my Freestyle/Greco-Roman Wrestling and Muay Thai. It's got the dance like movements that I already tried to incorporate when I wrestled. It really worked for throwing off timing of opponants. By itself, it's probably not that great in real fights (like Tae Kwon Do), but with a well rounded program I could see Capoeira as being effective.
i doubt this guys skill. he's quick, but not precise and certainly doesn't look powerful. i mean for gods sake you should be able to knock someone off their feet if you successfully land a meia lua. gotta give him credit for having the balls to do some strait out capoeira stuff out there.
you also have to realize that all these guys do is fight fight fight. So a hit that would knock you or me off our feet might only phase them. For example a roundhouse kick to the thigh barely phases guys in the cage, i've seen big guys decide that its not worth it after recieving one or two. Its all the training.

Now I really want to see his fight with Gomi.
Note how he has trouble landing those kicks even against a dazed opponent. And when they do land, they don't do much damage.
Seems like he mainly uses them to close the distance, freak the other guy out, and promote himself.
