Usually when i'm breaking down a solo, i try to play it at least half speed with a metronome. Be disciplined enough to listen and pick out to every nuance, every subtle bend, pull off etc that you can. Gradually increase the tempo of the metronome until you've cranked it up to the original tempo. Be absolutely critical of yourself and don't fool yourself into thinking that close enough is good enough!! Only crank the tempo up a notch when you KNOW you've got it nailed.
