I use a Makita jigsaw with an 18 tpi metal blade and it works good on 18 ga. but I feel my Blue Point air nibbler does a better and faster job......though bigger kerf. Thanks for the demos Morris.
im interested in this particular jigsaw. the only question i have is the longevity of the base. i've had many jigsaws in my day and all of the bases on them eventually bent or warped on me, causing the tool to cut bevel type cuts. i know its because im putting more pressure on one side when using the tool, but in all honesty, a base should be solid steel and not warp.
how have you found this tool with the problem i mentioned?
hey mutant1962 go slower and make sure to use wd-40, this will make your blades last alot longer with sheet metal. The reason the blades die out is because of the heat build up, ever touch a blade by accident after you used it for a few long cuts? Good Luck
Phenomenal tool. If you look at some of my other videos, you'll see I used it to cut much heavier steel tubing as well, 1/12" thick. It also features several reciprocating type setting that would be very handy for wood or plastic.
I responded a couple days ago and YouTube never posted it. Steel was 18 gauge (unless I messed up:-) but the DeWalt does an equally good job on my steel tubing, wich is 1/12", or about twice as thick as 18 gauge.
hey, what gauge sheet metal is that? is it galvanized? I'm doing the floors in my K5 blazer right now, I'm using 18 gauge galvanized and its eating up all my jig saw blades that I bought yesterday at home depot. they are heavy duty blades for cutting sheet metal. they go through the 20 gauge like butter but the 18 gauge is a bear and a half! I gotta get this truck closed up before the snow starts to fly. nice job by the way I like to watch your video's.

hi morris,
thanks for getting back to me.
i have decided that im going to take a chance on it and purchase one. it looks like a solid machine and should do the job for what i need.
and seeing as it is a dewalt, i can get a spare base quite easily if it does bend as
parts for dewalt machines are easily obtainable, thankfully.
cheers,
dave.

Dave,
Haven't put enough years on the DeWalt to say how it will hold up in the long run.
