Great Video guys! I am from canada but i have family in australia. I am planning on going for a visit this coming christmas and i was wondering what is the best gear to bring for catching bream on the fly ? Will a 9' 5wt trout rod be enough? I have fly rods ranging form 3 wt all the way to 8wt. I would really appreciate your advise!
Any of those rods can be used on bream. #3wt is great, but can be a bit of a challenge when fishing timber with heavy flies. The #5 would be ideal if you are comfortable throwing large wooolybuggers and heavy flies on it. Fishing the estuaries you will also encounter larger species such as trevally (you call them jacks) flathead and mangrove jacks (snapper) further north. You will know you're alive if you hook one a #5wt!
Thank you!! I appreciate you taking time to answer my questions. Can i bother you with one more question? I am not familiar with the weather in australia, is it too hot to use the trout lines we use in canada... I have 5wt rio AVID floating line , a variety of RIO floating lines with midge and sink tips (type 2 and 3) a Rio clear intermediate sinking line and a slow sinking Cortland camo line. Should i bring some tropical lines like the ones rio makes for bonefish and redfish?
