  • thanks a lot man.learned over the course of three days

  • thanks for posting this, I am about to try to learn it. At :30 in that cord I swear I hear a higher octave b-flat. Am I hearing things? I played the cord as you said it, but it doesn't sound like your cord, because it seems as if I am hearing a higher B-flat. Is it just my ears going wacky on me?

  • @ThatzLyfe This was recorded with my phone, so the sound quality suffers from automatic level control - but I cannot hear the extra Bb

  • Thank you for posting this! I watched the video a few times to get the notes but I am starting to get it.

  • Nice tutorial gonna do that song new years eve on our gig and just decided to see if I am on the right track and I am playing most of what you are playing the only difference is I used a few different inversions and a bit wider spread but and so mine sounds different from the original as you are showing, but good stuff keep them coming.

  • @leightonmusik Thanks. I hope it goes well for you on new year's eve.

  • Hey Bro would you play Thats The Way Of The World by EW&F in the key of C? Watch all you vids man your vids really help alot thanks in advance

  • i really wish the tutorial was as good as how you did it in the cover you played it really advanced

  • @MyDaville This is the first tutorial I ever made and I know it is not very good

  • 1:17

  • You have a great precise ear, who needs sheet music, you've arranged this yourself I know and your not going to refer to generic sheet music because its a catch-all for the masses that will alter the true sound and lack the changes in the original.

  • Awesome!!! U lost me when you started calling out notes. Keep those fingers going, I'll get it!

  • Love your talent. Could you also play the song "Ordinary People" by John Legend? Thanks and loon forward to continue learning from you.

  • Oh here it is. Muah thanks so much.

  • Thanks for the help on this one.

  • by the way - can i just explain, yeah it's half twelve new year's , i've actually got the night off this year, was going to have a nice quiet one and now my pal is really reall ill with flu so i'm babysitting her! i do have friends honest! but you've brought anita baker back into my life so i'm the one who'll be smiling tomorrow hahaha! X

  • well and truly subscribed

  • aaaah i totally loooove your no nonsense bosh it out, not too many words approach. thank you so much! everyone don't panick - just slow the video down if it's too fast then go back to original speed - sorted! finally someone who can teach. THANK YOU! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. I'm going to learn this and sing it at piano and send you the link from my other page. fab. thanks again. Dee Dee

  • Quick question, Since one day I want to play like Paul Wells. I'm a beginner looking to buy a digital piano up to maybe $500 or so, if you could recommend any that might be perfect for me. I was looking at the Casio Privia 130, Yamaha NP30 and a Korg SP250, school me please, Thanks in advance.

  • I really enjoyed this tutorial and I'm looking forward to getting started

  • Wow please let me know when you've published the sheet music. You've got some really great arranging chops!!

  • hey thks for posting this. i will say good video, but a tad fast.but how i figured out to play it was by knowing which key this song was in. Its seem to be a mix of DFLAT/Bfalt. Im a novice who's learning the scales & also to other novices if we learn the scales of each key its makes playing a whole lot easier. thks

  • @odestry It's Bb all the way through. I'm working on getting scores published which will be better for everyone than these admittedly less than ideal tutorials.

  • @paulwwells This is really weird, I have the actual sheet music score of this song and the key is in A

  • your an exellent pianist do you have a tutorial for blackstreets dont leave me girl

  • Are you going to slow it down the tutorial?

it was a bit confusing and just alittle fast.

but then again I'm not the best player out there

  • @chrissyiceicebaby I'm working on getting sheet music published for songs like this one which will be a lot better than these tutorials; I'm the first to admit that these tutorials are less than ideal.

  • @paulwwells NO SIR please don't think that. these are not good tutorials. i wouldnt change a thing actually. so if you continue to post vids please don't stop explaining like you do. i appreciate it. besides i dont read music. :) thanks for this one as well as others.

  • @paulwwells I appreciate what you do. You add the real and richness required in playing soulful ballads.

  • hi paul, does your style of playing differ a lot from a sheet music. like in this song, your style and what's on a sheet. i think your left hand has more variaty then what's on paper.......?

  • @olekike I haven't seen the sheet music version of this, so I cannot comment specifically, but generally I find sheet music is kept simple so as to be playable by the widest range of player abilities; however, sometimes it's too simple and lacks richness making the end result sound weak compared with the original.

  • @paulwwells I agree, I've been a fan of Anita and have listened to this song a thousand times and yet your version is even better with all the emphasis on the piano. I have put this and "Rapture" on cd and listen to it in my car, thanks. I can only dream of being such a great player.

  • this is over confusing put another 1 up

  • I LOVE IT thanks!

  • Helpful, but kinda confusing.

  • Which bit's confusing?

  • @paulwwells: It seems that what you play at the beginning sounds a bit different from what you teach us.

But it's still good, though. I mean, I'm not completely lost. I pretty much know how to play the song thanks to you.

  • @FerrariCarr - thanks for letting me know; that gives me some idea. There are a few places where it deviates from my original video. If I was to play it again now I probably would come up with a different version. If you post a video reply I could easily tell you if any parts are different - you have most likely added your own interpretation as well.

  • @paulwwells: Yes, I've added some keys to my version to "make it my own", I guess you could say.

I would post a video reply, only I do not have a video camera.

  • Would you happen to know "Violet" by Seal?..i love that song, but the chords are way too complicated for me, you are excellent at breaking down chords in an understandable way...its a beautiful arrangement by Seal.

  • could you post the chord changes only for the verses if we want to sing along without playing the melody?

  • It probably needs another tutorial to prune the melody because the inversions have been altered from the original to accommodate the melody.

  • i thought so. Thanks, and nice playing by the way. ;)

  • Please do post a video reply - nothing would give me greater pleasure than to hear this great song and its empowering harmonies in the hands of other musicians as a result of this video.

  • spot on. thank you so much!

  • Pimpness!!!!!!

  • Do you have Giving you the best that I got by Anita Baker?

  • that song is really rock....sweet love...i like your tutorial its really helpful...

  • Beautiful song, beautifully played! Would give a million bucks to play so well (if I had it) lol. Can't seem to stay away from this tutorial. A priceless gift!

  • Thank you Paul Wells...I must say, you are one of the better teachers online! Please do more tutorials!

  • i would really appreciate if you specify the chord instead of only the basses... but great job... almost done with the song but on guitar... thnx, it helped a lot... keep it up

  • FLAWLESS!!!!! i was gonna try to decipher the notes from the side in ur other video lmao

  • Thank you so much for this. Is this in Bb Major Paul?

  • Very nice tutorial mate, about time someone covered this song properly!

  • Thanks for posting this! You are so talented.

  • ii would like to also thank you Paul for posting this up! ii am soooo happy that ii can show my brother how to lend his little sister her keyboard to get back into her musical world lol. thank you again!

    <3.

  • Thank you so much Paul for posting this great tutorial. I've been subscibed to you for a while now and have learnt to play many new tracks from your wonderful videos. I really enjoyed your 10CC 'not in love' vid which helped me no end. I just wish I could play more than 2 sounds together on my Yamaha PortableGrand DGX-220 to really do it justice! Thanks again mate :)
