And can someone tell me which Greek film this is from because the music is definitely Greek and so is her headress and the general atmosphere reminds me of Pelaga's engagement scene in Captain Corelli's Mandolin. What are you talking about? It's us that have been taking from the Egyptians since the time of the Minoans. And if you search a little, you'll see how many Egyptian songs have been made into Greek ones, without proper credit to the authors, the Greek composer passing it off as his own (also happened with many Indian ones). The exposed belly was only a Hollywood influence in Egypt, it is not traditional costume.

Thanks for informing me Irene. Although I know that the Egyptians r older than us I did not know this about the songs. But u hav 2 admit the tune sounds very Greek that's y I thought it was. + d man at 2:48 looks like one of them pple 4rm visit Greece tourist posters. Just a q: If none of your close relatives r Greek can u still acquire Greek citizenship? (btw only my great-grandma was Greek) but I fell like a 1000% Greek. Weird but true!

The "Greek sound" comes from the fact that the oud in this case has a bouzouki-like quality. But they're different instruments.

You're right about the moustached man. But then, if you come to the Middle East, you'll see that there are common genes everywhere. Even looking at the map, look at Cyprus, Crete, Libya, Lebanon, how close they are. There has been intermingling surely during the ages.

I am spanish descent and live in australia, and am always askes whether i am greek egyptian lebanese syrian macedonian turkish italian armenian the list goes on lol. There are cultural infuences all through not only that region but throughout all of europe and asia, we are not very far apart at all. Also i heard some traditional indigenous australian music the other day that sounded just like greek music so...go figure LOL

Sometimes being covered makes the woman look sexier, like in this case. The Arabic belly-dance varies from country-to-country. In Egypt, the Baladi style Arabic dance requires covering, but usually they cover themselves up with spandex, which is a tight, shiny and stretchy material, so it almost looks like shes naked.

Thats really funny. The Greeks stole it from the Egyptians (I am half Greek, half Egyptian). You must give credit where credit is due. There is definitely some Greek influence perhaps bc all the Mediterranean cultures are similar but bellydancing is Egyptian, the costume is traditional Egyptian and so is the music.
