You can't fix an overheating electronic issue by adding heat. The towel trick may be a temporary fix, but can also ruin the chipset. Reballing is the only way to fully fix an Xbox. And if you think this trick works, STAY OUT OF YOUR XBOX INTERNALS. You obviously don't have enough knowledge to properly fix it. Does anyone actually think that when people still under warranty sent their Xbox back to Microsoft, that their tech people just fixed it by putting a damn towel over it?

Guys you need to take the hard drive out when you get it. If you keep it on too long with the hard drive in it will just whipe the memory clean. unless you want an empty hard drive i suggest it.

Well, to be percise. The towel trick just fries the mother board and destroys the wire inside the xbox360 which causes malafunctions and maybe permenetly destroy your xbox. or you could go find the xcm kit for the fans in the back and front (internal fans) and just put them in. that is if you are no longer under warrenty like mine is i had them put the fans in and with the little display i'm tracking up to 10 degrees C with all those compared to just the rear fans

So today we replaced it with an Elite and the first time we turn the thing on it has these three rings. Good job Microsoft, good job. PS. it does made sence to do this the red ring could be this way because the solder on the equipment has melted. and when the solder is no longer in place it is not connected right . by heating up the xbox360 it gives the solder time to melt and re connect to the bourd. and when it is cooling off the solder hardnens. the problem with heating it though is the loss of connection the melted solder is loss as well. I took 2 years in elecronics and solder is a pain but this was a good idea none the less

my xbox (i havent any xbox 360..........yet) flashed red and over heated i let it cool down i tried again but as before it flashed red again so i use my vacuum cleaner over the fan then it should spin. but not this time so i use a tool that the dentist use when they search after holes. i pushed on one of the blades on the the fan with it hard but carefully and i heard a loud strange sound in the xbox then i turn it on and it worked as new. the most strange is: it wasnt any dust in the xbox.
