I like how you play the level climatically, Like instead of just running through the level really fast you examine the area, like if you were actually at the crash site.
For most levels, I used to just walk around (even after all enemies killed/objectives complete) and just look at the surroundings, and listen to the music. Everything goes together so well. I used to wish I could be inside the game and experience what it would be like in real, it's PERFECT, period.
its hard to belive, but when I plugged in my reightous voodoo 2 graphic card and started up this game for the first time in all its open gl glory I thought "holy shit, will games ever be better looking than this?"
really makes me laugh today, but it really was a good looking game above everything else at that time.
yeah, this game scared the hell out of me bad too when i first played as a kid, this level was seriously creepy. of course if your dad was playing it, he'd know what to do and you can watch safely, but when you're playing you feel immersed, like you're the one in the dark and death
so scared to even be near the dead captain in the chair lawl
Anyone here remembers the part where you just listen to the screams of the Vortex Rikers survivors, while they got ripped to pieces by that skaarj? Fucking awesome scene, and yet scary enough.
@erikouwehand Oh yeah. If you got a 360 with backwards compatability you SHOULD play this AND get a game called Serious Sam. Watch footage on youtube to see just how CRAZY it is!
I love this game. I remember buying Unreal on its release date (1998). I was 18. It killed my PC at the time in terms of cutting edge graphics. I upgraded to a Voodoo 2 GPU just for this game. But It has been with me all the way up to Windows 7. And it has always worked without having to tweak any settings (except for Widescreen tweaks). And the gameplay always keeps me coming back. And Unreal still makes my heart jump. Thanks for posting these HD videos. Now......where is that install disk :-)
Really, the only level I thought was scary, was the second level... Guy goes flying from an explosion and hits the wall while you face your first brute...
Same to me. When i was 5 i was so scared of this game, so i asked my dad to help me win this game when he touched that guy on 2:03 he scared the heck out of me.
This game never scared me when I watched my Dad play it as a kid, although I will admit some of the monsters are a bit freaky looking (like the queen boss).
I still remember being amazed when I first saw level 2 where you first walk out onto Napali. Such beautfil lands...
How come this level scared you by the way? I'm just wondeing. I can definetly kind of see why on the Queen boss level.
It's the atmosphere the game has, when you play it for the first time it feels so real and creepy that you can actually get scared of playing it, pretty much lol
@W3zZy95 damn me too!! When I was first time playing this, was at my uncles house, he used to have best PC from the village :D I was like 6 years as well and everything was so scary... the environment - the darkness, the sounds the bloody half-dead guy on the chair in the second room... maaan... But I love those memories... This game started my gaming life..
2:13 . . . . i always wondered how the hell you got that armour! O_o and at last i know how! :D

I like the naturalistic way you play this. Makes it much more fun to watch than someone who plays OCD style, or uses lots of hacks and cheats.

what's the name of the level with the dead Krall and the log that's translated badly from Krall to English? ("I'll be de-hrangoed for sure...")

I remember I almost had to cry over every of those screams. It really managed to be the most unsettling game-experience ever

This game was so well made that it simply EMBARASSED the competition for quite some time.
As a matter of face, this very scene reminds me of Doom 3.

Me too. Out of all the levels, the ones that scared me the most were this level and the final level where you fight the Skaarj Queen.
