@rangeravr a 90 gallon 10inch deep should be enough for a baby even two baby soft shell turtles. but as they grow bigger you need to separate them. unlike other turtles like painted turtles that you see in the pond, soft shell turtles are aggressive like the one i have in my video and bite a lot. unlike other turtles these soft shell turtles are not social kind of like the snapper which also not social turtles meaning they do not like to share all the time.
Awesome setup. Since you obviously know what you are doing, I had some questions. Is a ninety gallon tank, filled ten inches deep, a good setup for two males?
@rangeravr depending on the size of the males i wouldn't recommend two adult males in one tank. soft shell turtles are delicate when young and a bite from another soft shell could be critical.
what is your substrate in this video? river sand? or something else? how do you keep the water so clean? you you have a filter that can handle low water level or do you change the water often? also how to you heat your water for the soft shell?
i use aquarium grade sand, petco or petsmart should carry it. i change my water ever few days. for bigger turtles i believe you need some turtle filtration system but small ones 3 inch and smaller don't need it just some good safe water and water change ever few days will do so once they get bigger you probably need submersible filtration. i use regular 100 watt heater set low at 70-80 degree F. there are also submersible heaters also.
yes most definitely, visit petsmart or petco and get aquarium sand. if you dont have sand your little baby softshell will have no place to hide which will cause him to tense and become stressful so he needs a place to hide also my baby softshell sleeps half buried in sand so again these turtles need it like we need water so put sand on your first to buy list.
feel free to ask more questions, regarding if i can live with another turtle i would say no because unlike other turtles softshell from my observation of the one i have they are more aggressive and bite more than other turtles. also the snapping turtle might bite the soft shell turtle shell and thats a big risk to any soft shell turtles life.
How is your turtle doing I'm thinking about getting one
