You really can't compare one martial art to another. There are different strengths and weaknesses in different forms of martial arts. The only thing that all martial arts have in common are endurance and strength.

A martial art is only perfected after using the edit button over a certain amount of time by certain number of ppl Shaolin is one of the few out there living over a thousand years, with adjustments to the point it needs no more adjusting. The mind is steady and humbled, brought up with less interaction outside just to teach it on to the next child. It's at its peaceful era, and completion. And it's foundry location is still around.

Just to let you guys know something. Shaolin Kung Fu is not the greatest style of self defense. Could they kick my ass? Yes in every way shape and form. A judo master would tie them up and snap their necks. Rather, Shaolin Kung Fu is the epitome of meditation. Their entire lives are dedicating to mastering control over their minds and bodies. By the end of this process, their minds and bodies defy science. We can't explain or observe Qi but the results truly defy basic rules of science.

it's wonderful that your ambitious to follow a religious concept such as buddhism. But you should know that there are three types of buddhism: therevada, mahayana, and vajrayana. Thervada is based on the sole teachings of buddha, and does not consider buddha as "divine" but a humble saint. The shaolin monks practice the mahayana, in which we have the statue worshipping of buddha as a God. All three forms are correct, it is up to you to choose which one you prefer.
