  • Is this the same as a lithotripsy?

  • Thank you Sir.

  • Thank you for posting this for the world to see. I have had a couple of dozen of these now but never knew what was involved

  • I am an 84 y.o female; have a 16 mm stone in my right kidney. My Urologist attempted to beak it up at 6 different times and concluded it needed to be removed surgically. I have this stone since 1957 and has never caused me pain but I had some bleeding so I will have the surgery in July or August. I am somewhat apprehensive as I am aware that every procedure isn't always succesful. I would appreciate your comment.. thank you. nivelles1400

  • Not only that but i also have a hernia in my groin which i told him & the surgical team about.I noticed that since the procedure it has been pushed down into the scrotum & it is swollen, even my penis had some swelling.I told a nurse & she just said oh ok.The same nurse told me to become a vegetarian like her & her parents because eating meat creates evil & that's why i hear voices (i have schizoaffective disorder) I'm now at home & freaking out & don't where to go from here, please help!

  • I had this procedure yesterday & it was a failure. The urologist i had seen handed my over to another urologist to do the operation & i only met him the day of the surgery.I was in surgery for 3 & 1/2 hours & the new urologist told me 3 different guidewires broke when he was trying to make a path.I was sent home today to have it reschudeueled in the near future.I'm freaking out as i have to have it all done again.

  • Great video! I've had this done before and am having it done again in a couple of weeks. I'm impressed by how far the technology has come.

  • The placement of the wire was the most painful part of this.

I was awake & felt it even though I'd been given a shot in my

back. The tube/stent was caused constant bladder spasms

for a week. The removal of the stent was painful, as I was not under

anesthesia . Two weeks after my procedure, I am weak and

have no energy, yet can't get back into a sleep pattern. I did feel

this was a traumatic experience.Recovery is rough. Just beware

    this is no picnic.

  • @grammashome I'm having it done this Friday. I hear the wire placement from one guy was like a bee sting, and my sister whohas kids says it was really painful. I'm nervous, because I have a 14-15mm stone mass, and I've been in pain for a month waiting on my surgery. They gave me Lortab, and it didnt help at ALL! I hope they give me somethign strong for my recovery. What did they give you?

  • Very clear and concise. It does the best job on YouTube on explaining this procedure.

  • Great video! I am having this done in just under a month. Thank you so much for explaining it so perfectly and putting up such great video of the actual breaking up of the stone!

  • Thank you so much for your comprehensive video of the PCNL procedure. I am having this done on Tuesday and am much more at ease having watched this done. I am not near as apprehensive as I was prior to watching this.

  • THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. MY NURSING INSTRUCTOR HAS USED THIS VIDEO FOR HER NURSING CLASS IN PREPARATION OF THE RENAL CHAPTER.

  • THANKS FOR THE EXPLANATION IN THIS VIDEO. MY INSTRUCTOR HAS SHOWN US THIS VIDEO IN HER NURSING CLASS FOR THE REVIEW OF THE RENAL CHAPTER.

  • Nice video i have seeing a couple already but this the best although i already had clear who the procedure is done, i always want to learn more i'm having this procedure next friday and i have a 2cm kidney stone

  • I had the operation a couple of weeks ago and it was very successful. I left hospital a few days after having a 2cm stone removed. However the following week I had a fever and passed a further fragment in my urine. I am now pain and nausea free.

  • Getting ready for a PCNL.

  • I'm here in the Philippines. thanks for sharing this video. I have just had my UNSUCCESSFUL 1st and 2nd sessions of ESWL at Manila Doctor's Hospital. I am seriously considering PCNL as my next option. My kidney stones resisted ESWL. I hope PCNL will be the cure because I really want to avoid having MAJOR surgery

  • @PacDieHard pacman rules from canada

  • Excellent video. It explains the procedure in simple and understandable ways. I will be having this type of surgery done in a few weeks, so I am very appreciative of your work here.

  • Dear Sir, thank you for your comment. I am glad that my video makes clear this complex operation. This is my purpose. I wish you the best for the operation.

  • @Welshbluesman I agree with you. I am having this procedure next month and this video really breaks it down nicely for the layman. I'm still kind of nervous. But at least now I have an understanding of what will be happening.

  • WoW thanks doctor for this video it took me time to under stand it in the book but now just 8 minuets

  • Very Good Video !!

I have a 9.5mm x 6mm stone that is in my left kidney. It is walled in, and only a PCNL would

be effective. It can not be accessed via the calix from below. Calcium Oxalate stone.

To gain access, step 1, do you use ultrasound.

A doctor (Dr. Portis) in Minnesota, USA, uses a radiology procedure rather than use X-ray and ultra sound to determine a safer entry.

My stone, when discovered 6 years ago was 6mm,

now it is 9.5mm. Any doctors contact me!! help

  • @mikeatthebeach1 hi! pcnl is a feasible procedure but it has to be done by experts.

some questions: you have a left hydronephrosis? have you got renal pain? which calix is involved? good procedure in the right cases, this is said by an urologyst.

  • @leomas75 Dear sir, i don't understand some of your questions. Side (left or right) is not an issue neither for the technique nor for the indications. Pain is not an issue as some big stones may not cause severe pain. Hydronephrosis doesn't change indications, renal function is more important. Superior calix may be more challenging to access.
