  • stupid how people keep fighting over religion and don't respect other beliefs... beautiful organ and cathedral!

    Ben voila, excellent exemple...

  • I love this cathedral, I love this organ!

  • What is so inappropriate about this piece being a postlude?! Our organist has played it... it's a beautiful and fun piece!!

  • Why, organboi?

Nice ending to the magic show.

What is inappropriate is teaching myth and convincing gullibles that the fairytales are TRVTH.

But it sure is wonderful music.

This piece needs a huge live acoustical environment.

  • @robertgift - to understand Vierne, or any of the great Parisian organists, you must understand Roman Catholicism, and, arguably, be a Catholic yourself. No atheist can fully understand any of them.

  • @EccentricRichard Incorrect. One can know the myths upon which these compositions are based without being gulliblenough to believe them. Although, the only Vierne I play is Carillon de Westminster. The Westminster Chime melody is incorrect. (With Catholicism, being correct has never been an issue.)

  • @robertgift - so Vierne misremembered the Westminster chime, and that proves that Christianity is a load of rubbish? Balderdash. There is so much circumstantial evidence from the time of Christ that proved that he existed, and that he did things utterly beyond the abilities of any mere human, that those who call it all a myth are fooling only themselves. Certainly, you cannot understand Dupré, Duruflé, Alain or Messiaen with no Christian faith.

  • @EccentricRichard Christianity, as all religions, is man-made myth, fairytale and ridiculous laughable rituals, regardless of whether Vierne got the Westminster Chime correct or not. (Did someone write down and give him the melody? Or did he purposely change it for his marvelous composition?)

Certainly an agnostic, atheist or one of another faith can understand these wonderful works. Don't forget Reger!

  • You might want to know, this piece is not from Vierne's second symphony for organ. It is acutally his Pièces De Fantaisie Op.53 Nos. 1-6 Suite II- Toccata. Much more impressive than symphony 2.!

  • Einfach fantastisch!

  • thx for posting this. its one of my favorite pieces.

For me it wouldn't be worth playing such a great piece when people dont care about it! Too Bad!

  • I play the organ myself and in the church and i HATE it always the people cry or talk so loud!! People always think they've to speak louder than the organ plays!

  • Lol, that's right ! :)

  • Think of this: When asked why he never did a postlude, Charles Tournemire replied, "Because when all the stops are out are the ears are as well."

  • You're right... In Italy it happens very often... :(

  • Why so you think the French school developed the Contrabombarde and Cochereau had the exterior trumpets installed at Notre-Dame? Just to keep the congregation under control!!! (Only joking). Regards, Paul :-)

  • Ah, ah, ah!!! Yes, you're right!!

Try to speak louder than a Trompette-en-chamade...

    :-D

    Regards, Lorenzo.

  • Get a late Cavaillé-Coll organ and you will not here anyone speak!

Eventually you will not here anything at all...lol:)

    Just a little fussy comment!

  • nice play! but the peopel go away or talk to loud. thats the batch of the organists.

the frensh organ composors said that bach is their big father. does anyone know the march of the night watchman who is like a memorization honour to bach´s "Wachet auf"?

  • widor is one of the best frensh composers and he called bach "the father of all of us" i know bad translation. wich church is it?

  • Wow! I want to learn this so much but it's so hard to play. :-)

  • You can say anything you want about the French. But they build the best organs, they play the best and the French Romantic composers are the best.

I've played the largest organ in the world

(Atlantic city with 33,000 pipes) and the best organ in the world (St. Sulpice, Paris). I've done it all !!!!!!

Who was this organist, he/she is brilliant.

  • scappano tutti.

  • We all love Bach, but those French composers are wicked! Excellent post. Thank you so much for filming how a postlude should go. Too bad you couldn't identify the organist. Vierne and his contemporaries were the men! BRAVO!!!!

  • That organ sounds like an artillery barrage, absolutely fantastic and a wonderful player as well. Brilliant.

  • Awesome! Beautiful! This music will rid you of all your demons. Can't get too loud for me.

  • What a great sound! Love the raw reed sound.
