@snellman3 Actually, FMA:Brotherhood is the REAL storyline. FMA Brotherhood follows the original manga whereas the first FMA didn't. Maybe it's just because I read books on a regular basis, but I hate it when people change a storyline to fit a movie. And I'm assuming it went the same way with the original FMA. The first was great, but Brotherhood is more accurate.

well theire pretty much the same thing the only difference it that :

fullmetal alchemist starts the season by following the manga but at one point it isnt the same story and it becomes totally diferent

full metal alchemist brotherhood on the other hand follows the manga. its exactly the same thing and it wont change story after a while it gonna stick to the manga.

I enjoy both, but as separate stories. I really love the manga, and since Brotherhood is following the manga strictly, then I'm liable to enjoy it more. There is a lot of plot variation and the backstories of many of the characters are very interesting and entertaining.

So, you see, he didn't have much of an option in the matter. It was either stay in Amestris leading a happy life, knowing that a war was being waged using a weapon of mass destruction from his world, knowing it would kill hundred of thousands of people, or go back stop it. As for him not bothering to say goodbye,this is Ed. he doesn't want any attactment holding him back when he focuses on a goal. His burning down his house in order to remove the temptation of going home should've told you that.

As for why he decided to it himself, did we miss the little message about "responsibility" and "sacrificing one's dreams for the greater good" that was being broadcasted throughout the film? Ed didn't trust anyone but himself to handle the matter with the atomic bomb because he feels indirectly responsible for it being transported to our World's Germany. We know what hero complex Ed had, so he took the extreme action (as always) and was willing to leave all behind for what he felt was his duty.

Ed couldve stayed back in the alchemy-world with Winry, Al, roy,etc. but he decided not to. He could've easily rigged the ship to explode when it reached the otherside thus destroying the gate. That and even if it didn't, so as long as they destroy the one on their side, the other one is useless. I infer that he went back because he loves Noa, i think because he can relate to her and feels bad for her."You're the same as we are, you have no home". He also said knowing Al is alive, he can bear it
