  • Lol everyone's jamming the fuck out, like that crowd surfer at 2:08

  • 1 year later and you've he's in Nirvana... What a fucking legend

  • @Shourts92 actually, two years later...

  • a young legend in the making, i would have done anything to see dave grohl behind a drum kit again. Not saying daves not an awesome singer, cuz his voice defines awesome singing.

  • @Wangobangodango Shut the hell up, it's Skeeter Thompson and he wasn't there as the 'token negro' - he was a fucking good bassist

  • .....Still got a diy cassette tape from the tour recorded at a gig in Cardiff.

Mad to think it was a young Mr Grohl on the skins! Must say they were a bit cheesy for the local punk scene tastes but a nice bunch of guys.

  • Saw Scream in 1985 @ The Crown Trowbridge, Wiltshire UK. They were on a UK tour with punk/ska band, Culture Shock. (The band I was in, The Resserected were bottom of the bill!)

20 years later younger local music fans have this myth that Dave Grohl held auditions for Nirvana in another local boozer (Carpenters arms). They even filmed themselves trying to speak to DG backstage at a recent festival to get the truth.

  • yes

  • 0:14 the poster on the right says D.O.A! (d.o.a its a foo fighters song btw)

  • @frogertdatoad D.O.A. is an influential old school punk band. Check them out.

  • @MrThepossumfromhell lol really? I didn't know :P (not being sarcastic).. I'll check them out :D

  • @frogertdatoad haha I thought that to

  • 0:28 is that kurt? XD

  • @zimmermandylan1 DO you mean the guy who jumps on stage? def not him I thought for a second the guy on the floor to the right of him could have been but not him either. The break down in this song is sick. The bass player and Dave Grohl are def. driving this band. What do you guys think?

  • A true musical legend.

  • Super Rare!!!

  • scream rules.

  • Cool, I used to have same guitar, looks like Ibanez RG550, mines was another color though. Like a bluesh color.

  • God Dayum... No wonder Nirvana shit their pants when they saw him. He was perfect for where they were going as a band.

    Grohl is a fucking beast!

  • fuck yeah... this song makes me feel the way i did when i discovered a band that was a cross between fugazi, the buzzcocks, and a bunch of elvises...SCREAM!! (bad ass...)

  • what a weird lookin band but Dave as always tearin it up

  • underground still existing?

  • Was there! The huge guy in front at 3:16 is now the head of Bielefelds largest Computer Franchise store. And many others still live...;-)

  • Dave grohl is at the wrong gig

  • Hootie and three Blowfish.

  • Holy shit, the lead singer sucks ass.

  • Can someone find the ,lyrics or post them for me?

  • The bassist skeeter is a friend of mine.!!

  • @djcounteract that dudes funny at the begining i saw this concert

  • Goatsnake doesn't suck goats balls but this sure does. Dave Grohl keeps a 4/4 beat. who cares.

  • dave's hair io cool in this

  • no wonder the bass player left dave is just to good

  • dave was 19 here. he joined scream when he was 16 but he told them he was 19 at the time

  • amazing ! the energy of daves drum playing is great

  • dave was not 20 he was 18 here

  • an other show was in waiblingen(near stuttgart)villa roller

  • this stuff is awesome

  • does anyone know what the rest of the band are doing now?

wow! i bet dave would have been blown away if he could have seen his future!

    YOU ROCK DAVE!

  • @0ut0fn0thingdrumer

They are re united and playing this sunday night at the Black Cat here in DC

  • oh cool i diddent know that, cheers.

  • do they stil have dave?

  • What? I fucking missed it? Oh, fuck me. I should definitely read the Washington City Paper or just bookmark the Black Cat...

  • @0ut0fn0thingdrumer The singer is Peter Stahl, an important name in the Palm Desert rock scene, he went on to form Goatsnake and other bands.. But otherwise, he's been out of the scene.

  • dave grohl - the essential hard hitter...

  • These guys played my basement in Eugene later that year after Skeeter took off. Never saw someone hit the drums as hard as Grohl did!

  • this music is hardcore the ancestor of emo, screamo and post hardcore but nothing can beat the real hardcore....

  • FOO FIGHTERS RULES!!!!!

  • i think its pretty cool that dave respects his days in scream even though he has had alot of success after he left them, i mean he wears a scream t shirt in the smells like teen spirit vid.

  • such a good band

  • No matter how many times i watch this, the guy that falls in the beginning cracks me up.

  • haha this was their cheez phase, wayyy past their golden days, but I do love scream and I like the albums they did with dave, but its just not the same as still screaming, but after scream broke up, we all know what happened :D

  • you can tell skeeter is on crack

  • quote

  • you are an idiot.

  • Yeah, I know.

  • I wonder why the hell he left to join Nirvana.

  • scream broke up

  • Scream was in the middle of a US tour when Skeeter left while the band was in LA.

An old bassist for Government Issue tried to fill in, but wasn't able to do the material. Pete and Franz sister lived in LA at the time so the guys had a place to hang. Dave heard about the Nirvana tryouts and hoped it would get him closer to The Melvins and decided to go.

The rest is well known history.

  • the melvins introduced nirvana to dave, nirvana needed a drumer to buzz took em to scream show then scream broke and dave went to olympia to live with kurt

  • Tell me about it. They were supposed to play Spanky's in Riverside CA. After sitting thru ugly traffic from LA to get there, we find out the show had been canceled. Then some months later, we saw Dave Grohl playing drums for Nirvana at the Palladium opening for Dinosaur Jr.

  • Dave and Franz sure can play, as can Skeeter. Now, could we please have another Scream reunion?

  • Is that Kurt Cobain Crowd Surfing at the Start? lol

  • Nope. They met in 1990 through Buzz Osborne of the Melvins, in Aberdeen, in Washington State. This was a Washington DC-based band playing in Europe.

  • Yeah I know I was joking :)

    Just looks like kurt though

  • Ha thats funny cause in the booklet to the foo fighters debut album dave is wearing a wool band shirt that looks like the kool cigarette logo

  • cool video lol

  • lol my last name is stahl... weird

  • a 19 year old Dave Grohl. unreal back there!

  • for real!

  • @clintkantor corection 17 man

  • i liked this band alot more when they played punk

  • uh huh.

a lot of the punk bands changed or morphed into different things by the time they died.

if you want funny, look at some of SSD's last shows. heck, look at late era black flag and gang green when they went metal.

  • i know, doesn't mean they weren't better before

  • WORST STAGE dive ever in the beginning

  • haha...love the hair

  • ahh yes, a free-spirited dave grohl, destroying his drum kit.

now he's fronting one of the biggest bands today, so he has to be more focused.

  • the STAHLS RULE!

  • the STAHLS RULE!

  • pete stahls best band is goatsnake.... imo

  • wow I hate this ... anyone have any older shit from them ... ???

SCREAMS AMAZING BUT THIS SHOW BLOWS MY BALLS =*(

  • Pretty cool - reminds me of Naked Raygun. Love it how that guy's voice at the start sounds like an acoustic guitar.

  • never heard any scream before but they actually kick ass but still im glad trhey split up so that dave could b in nirvana and help write the kick ass album nevermind

  • I used to work with Skeeter as a bike courier in D.C. after they split. We used to sell and puff herb together in Dupont Circle all the time while we were waiting for calls....miss ya' buddy

  • Last time i ran into Skeeter was when I was working at the State Dept and he was a bike courier. Went through grammer- high school w/Skeeter and Kent Stax. High school with Franz and Pete.

  • Great seeing this again!

This is off a videotape of a German hardcore fanzine called Trust (if I remember it right), which I once owned.

Scream were one of the best hc bands ever!

  • Fuck yeah Dave!!

  • the bass tone is fucking awesome...and dave is just pwning...fuck it he was a kid then

  • Dave Grohl was lucky enough to be in SCREAM & had nothing on Kent! After This side up I just couldn't get it,punk roots wouldn't allow me to enjoy Banging the drum...so sad..did catch them in 86'-SANTA BARBARA,great show!

  • The bass player is Skeeter Thompson. I played in a D.C. area band with him in the mid-nineties. Scream would have got a major label deal if Skeeter hadn't had a drug problem. He split the band in L.A., Grohl went to Seattle.

  • that bass tone is fucking amazing

  • ive gotta say dat this is the 1st time ive evr heard sum of scream's stuff, and its awesome!! not a great recording bt still good! I LUV DAVE GROHL!!!!

  • woah-this is realy 80's hair metal style-would never call it close to punk, and what a change for dave to join nirvana later

  • have you heard any hair metal?

  • Franz is AWESOME!

  • Franz is probably the most underrated hard rock guitarists ever.

  • Dave Grohl IS rock n roll!

  • Holy shit, what's that song with the fantastic "WHOAAAOOOHHH" vocal hook near the end?!?

  • Man, I didn't know that Franz could shred! Awesome!

  • dave rulez

  • i guess you had to be around in the 80s. great stuff.

  • fucking awesom seems like hard rock of 80's really awesom dave is my hero i'll love u until the day i die

  • Pete Stahl is awesome

  • dave rules man he is a nice rough drummer i like that man

  • what diference!!! from this to Nirvana !!!

  • to the foo fighters too!

  • yea, it was after Scream disbanded. Dave was a friend of the Melvins and so were Nirvana, so he found them threw that connection

  • Nah, the thing was that Skeeter left and they lost their record deal and Grohl already had some inkling that he could be in to Nirvana, so he announced his departure and then Scream split and the Stahl brothers formed Wool.

  • ahhh..young dave, so reckless.

  • SKEETER THOMPSON!

  • If you like hardcore check out my band Law One at myspace/lawonerock

  • Dave was 18 or 19. He dropped out of school when he was seventeen in 86-87 or something like that.

  • Yeah, he lied about his age to get into the band.

  • what's the trouble with the singer's shirt? take it off, man. great video.

  • sounds like bad company or shit like that.

  • how Kurdt be so selfish to take Dave from this fertile crescendo?

  • was that bon jovi stage diving?

  • lol niggr! xD haha! kewt!

  • why r people so hung up on clothes and hairdo's?

  • Tabouli- he actually dropped out of his jr year in high school at 16 to go on tour

  • lmao, this is horrid. And by the way, does anyone else agree that D.H. Peligro and Dave should switch here and have them on each others instrument. lol, ok just kidding

  • What the fook?

I thought Scream were a hardcore band?

this sounds like 80s funk cock rock...

  • Scream without G. was better....seen Venlo OOC NL

  • harDCore was going through a serious identity crisis in the late 80's...don't be hatin' the hair & clothes!

  • Wow and I thought his hair was bad when he was with Nirvana!

  • u got really good videos, saludos desde mexico crakpan

  • great!

  • wasnt dave 17 when he joined scream? thats wot he said....

  • These guys played my basement w/o Skeeter...he bailed and the guy from government issue stepped in. Good stuff!

  • anyone heard daves song "just another story about skeeter thompson" from the pocketwatch thingy,1990, its strange.

  • yeah i heard that, it was pretty funny in a weird way.

  • hahahaha when that black guy coughed and threw his leg out, and then randomly rolled around on the floor was fucking hilarious

  • that's skeeter, he was an ok guy, and a good bass player.

  • woah...Grohl with blonde highlights....uncool
