Great song from a cool artist. Essra, in the early days, was said to believe herself an influence on Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell. Frankly, I doubt she influenced the former. Laura's influences were abstractions. But I think she did influence Joni. Something rather direct must have pushed Joni past the tinny, uptight sound of her first 2 albums and get her to groove. If you listen to "Thunder in the Morning" and "Help Me" you can hear similarities.
My sentiments are much like Joggyn Smyler's in that I also first heard this song, Thunder in the Morning, on the Philadelphia radio station WMMR in the 1970's and had looked for it for ages. It took help from my 20 yr old son to get to this on youTube. Thanks so much for bringing it to Essra fans from days gone by. You made my day.

I First heard this song on WMMR Radio in the 70's and I never for got it..something like when you never forget where you were and what you were doing when Kennedy was shot or 911.. Amazing power in this song.

I"ll never forget the first time I heard this song on WMMR back in the 70's.. LOVED IT! great song.. enjoy my PACK IT UP song by me "JOGGYN SMYLER" be blessed with the best day ever!
You are welcome catzapp1... In fact, Essra's first 3 albums were just reissued CD including PL and her Zappa-released "SANDY'S" album which is now on CD for the first time!
"Dark clouds told me that you'd been burned." She wrote the song for Stephen Stills, who'd been feeling quite blue at one point. "Let me reassure your soul that someone loves you." The whole album is otherworldly.
The amazing Essra Mohawk!!! From the album "Primordial Lovers". Wonderful Stuff: it's finally available on CD with her later music. She's from Philly, She played with Zappa and the Mothers once.
Thanks! I've been looking for this for years. I had the album and loved this song in particular as a teen. Gives me chills. I don't know the reason why, but it just does...
This song is very reminiscent of the first Joni Mitchell album I ever listened to... marvelous... it also has a Carole King flair to it ... really beautiful vocal here ... unusual ... just different enough to have that 'oh wow - oh cool' factor.
Mates, ya have to be also aware of the science here, i.e., Thunder indicates storm and lightening, which produces oxygen/ozone, also a kind of renewal, as love is also a renewal. ya might say the climate is "right" or conducive to the procreating activity,eh? OneFineDockRocker of MdDS
Oh, man, I used to travel all over SE PA back in the day to catch Essra. My favorite was a little club right on the Delaware River in New Hope (great piano and fabulous acoustics). Sheesh - almost 40 years ago! My nearly 40-year old vinyl of Primordial Lovers has the grooves almost worn off it so this is *greatly* appreciated - thanks!! Laura Nyro was a great talent as well, but Essra really does it for this old boy. ;) Thanks again!
This is nice and I'd probably like it more if Judee or Laura had not existed. However, it pales in comparison to those titans... sorry. Pleasant though.
