Apparently they missed Matthew 6:5-6, which specifically says that God does not like it when people pray in public - because people who do so are doing it to be seen *by other people*.

I'm a mathematician, therefore very logical thinking, and I saw christianity as a ploy to gain power over the masses, I embraced several different spiritual traditions that offered way more of the peace that jesus talked about than did the christians.

I was trying to explain this to someone the other day, and I could not explain it clearly - that is, I couldn't come up with a way to say "I don't SIN", I may do some things that are wrong sometimes, but I don't call it a sin. Religious dogma - I like that. If you don't mind, I'm copying this in case I need it in the future. I was born and raised Jewish, but now I'm a cultural Jew / Atheist - but I actually found the 'dead Jew on a stick' kinda funny!

Second, why would God give free will if everything he supposedly made was perfect. If a perfect God made a perfect creation, wouldn't it willingly choose to follow its creator?
And if God was all-knowing then wouldn't he try to win him over or get rid of him?

@pichez5 Third of all, why would we need an explanation to God? If we were wrong and we really were to be judged, why come up with an explanation? Wouldn't he already know that we didn't believe in him because of the lack of evidence of his existence and the multiple contradictions in the Bible? Also, what kind of loving God would make someone suffer for all eternity simply for not acknowledging his existence?

@pichez5 If Jesus loves people who because of the free will God gave them sin/don't believe in him then how can he condemn them to eternal damnation, surely he wouldn't be able to do that because he would find it too upsetting. Also what's the point in punishment for sin if even if a sinner learns from their sins in hell they will still be there for ever and will never make it to heaven?

Regarding that passage in which Jesus supposedly said that he came to bring no peace but sword, it was found in the Book of Kells the supposedly unadulterated version which in fact says 'I came not to bring peace but joy as well', and not 'no peace but sword' as according to the Bible. I'm a mathematician, therefore very logical thinking, and I saw christianity as a ploy to gain power over the masses, I embraced several different spiritual traditions that offered way more of the peace that jesus talked about than did the christians.
