  • Lol, Not the best example of total football. If you try and define what total football is then you don't understand total football.

  • total football is great, but realistically pass 22 is no different to a long ball. if the pass is over hit or he loses the header, the build up is pointless.

  • Now I understand what is total football

  • England getting tore apart as usual. How did ferdinand not win that ball in the air?

  • Michels, Cruyff and Bielsa, not Guardiola and Xavi...

  • bosman toch

  • I eat my dog ball and play total football with my dog shit..all day long.

  • And England cannot figure out why they cannot win a world cup look at this football and it is quite simple they cannot pass the ball.

  • total footbal- when no man has a position they adjust to whereever they are

  • This is the way football should me played not just kick run!

  • ugly ass music! haha

  • Ah...the of ancestor of tiki-taka

  • awsome football.

  • @tenseman08 You're wrong. Jack Reynolds is not the inventor of total football, it's Rinus Michels but Rinus was inspired by Jack Reynolds about the training, tactics, etc. He took some ideas of Reynolds, for this point I agree with you but the concept of total football came from Rinus Michels

  • @mrmomokar thats right. he was fascinated about the discipline what jack reynolds displayed, but michels and cruyff invented the total footbal in the ajax system and the dutch team...later on it went to barcelona, bacuse cruyff went over there too

  • so what

  • what an incredible goal...shit

  • @EIricbrother holland can play this kind of football when ever they want last world cup we dident play good football but tactical this was van marwijks decision in euro 2008 in the beginning everybody in europe thought holland would win after italy 3-0 and france 4-1 we played extremely good in those matches but if you give everthing you have in a beginning of a tournement you get tired and weak thats why we lost to russia

  • @34ytrhtrghrf The game against Russia was pure underestimation. Further, the Dutch won but took an aweful lot of risk and had just as much luck. It could easily have been 3 0 for Italy and 4 1 for France. And that is why Holland never wins: too much risk + underestimation. I like van marwijk's decision: not too much risk, no understimation. Time to focus on results. And it shows. The very first time they tried they were in a WC finals.

  • This is just my view, but I think they play boring and risky (passing on your own side), nothing much happening before move number 22 anyway. It seems to me that they use so many passes to waste time and make the opponent tired, that is defensive boring football in my opinion. Move number 22 was the move that was effective and made the chance, why not do it earlier so you get chances more often? That is in my opinion what offensive football is, and it's more entertaining than just passing.

  • @rasfarli This is how football is meant to be played. You are suggesting they shoud just hit the ball far ahead and chase it.This is amateurish. Their is no point doing it becouse you just give the ball to the opposition or you could score goal eventually 1 of 50 attempts if you got lucky. Instead they are playing inteligently passing each other controling the play until they got in better position and waite for the right to make an attempt on goal when their is more space or surprise element.

  • @kavalllinho Spoken like a champion

  • @rasfarli Total Football is not necessarily Offensive Football.

  • @rasfarli the filosofy is to find the free player. Thats what they keep doing. No difficult shit, just pass it to the free player. Its so simple, but also so difficult.

  • @malawihenk75 Yes, Like the master Cruijff said: Football is simple, But the haredest thing is to keep it simple.

  • Cruyff <3

    LOVELY GOAL ..

  • @MChablowsky This is Van Basten i believe.. this is footage from the victorious euro 88 campaign :)

  • Let me drop a bit of knowledge for you kids who don't know much about football history! Total football was not introduced by rinus michels or johan cruijff..the idea of total football came from Jack Reynolds..everything that ajax is famous for..the philosophy of total football played today by barcelona's, arsenal etc all came from Reynolds..he revolutionized the way players would train, tactics and he took ajax from amateurs to pro..bit like shankly with liv and chapman at arsenal

  • 0:06 dont u think its wrong passing the ball from players with leg then catch by goalkeeper hand without touching goalkeeper leg first?

  • this passing game didnt work on germany in 1990, it works only on crappy defences like that of england.

  • @adigabear

So that is why Barcelona often beats very defensive teams?

    Good to know.

  • @thedutchman01

well they did awfully against inter last year. if they played like under rijkaard using the physical element more, they could have won. but when you play on the grass all the time you just cant beat defensive teams like inter last year or chelsea two years ago. you just get outplayed because when you are busy at passing they are being busy on shooting the target.

  • @adigabear

I think you need to look at the latest installment of Real Madrid vs. Barcelona.

Madrid was very defensive, and Barca still won.

Barca is a team that prooves that you can win things with a positive offensive attitude. Applaud them for it. Don't try to bring them down man, celebrate that such good football can also be effective. This is football as it is supposed to be. This pulls people to the stadiums. This entertains. Defensive football less so in every respect.

  • @thedutchman01 There disgusting diving go's along way too

  • First Tiki Taka

  • It is Total Football because you see players changing positions, for example Ruud Gullit. And Rinus Michels (Founder of Total Football) was coach at that time.

  • It's not "total football" but it is a great example on an intelligent football team, playing possession football well.

They have kept the ball, brought England all the way out, put the all the way back on the edge of their penalty area, brought them back out again and as soon as England were stretched (the distance between the ranks, ie def and mid became too far to be effictive defensively) they attacked quickly and precisely.

    Brilliant!

  • this is not total football... this is just a lot of passing before scoring a goal.... total football utilized every player in the team, exchanging positions in order to keep a smooth flowing forward momentum

  • this is impressive. and the vid is so 80's! lol

  • That's not fotbal total! The systhem of the late 80es is not the same as the original fotball total!

  • You can see that Pep Guardiola has watched this video over and over again :-)

  • argentina pulled of 25

  • @666cctv Ajax ( masterminds of Total football) did 50 in 1971 in the eredivisie can't remember which team.

  • this isn't entertaining at all.

it certainly is confusing the other squad in order to get a goal, but it's not fun to watch.

  • @theforsakenshadow it is entertaining and effective because the squad's free flowing style of beautiful passing doesn't allow the other team to touch the ball

  • very awsome!!!

  • This was a friendly match a few months prior to Euro 88. I was meant to go to it but there was violence on the undergroud so we decided against it. I was only 13 at the time

  • barcelona are copying this style but they say it is our style fuck barca and their football

  • @nvdrh Copying? Copying is like Wenger doing at Arsenal, copying Barca style..

But we not copy this style because the Man who created this football and was the player under Rinus Michel has brought this to Barca originally and it's been like this in Barca almost all the time since Rinus Michell has been the coach of Barca.

Copying is very bad thing to say, Arsenal are copying Barca but Barca has this in it's Blood, it's in History and been brought by Michel and Cruyff.

  • Inspired by van gogh

  • the worst action i ever seen I wasted 1 minute of my life for nothing , you idiots

  • @1Ryden

    lol , your pathetic

  • @FrancisCastiglione

STFU nobady asked you for opinion...

  • @1Ryden

nope , but nobody asked for your neather , but your still a fucking cocksucker ...

  • @FrancisCastiglione without this action the football u know nowa days wouldnt exist u damnn idiot

  • Bitches, dit jaar wordt Nederland aka Oranje wereld kampioen en verslaan we Brazilië! Wordt toch een keer tijd dat we wereld kampioen worden, aight?

  • Work of art! This is why Dutch are and always will be my champion even though they never won world cup but the way they play.

  • who were the dutch against?

  • @MrOscarLiao well I think John Bosman was number 9 for the Dutch in that year, but he didn't score in the european championships, so it could have been any friendly or qualifier from that year. difficult to find out i'm afraid!

  • Amazing, that was Football...

  • now THAT is the best goal!!!

  • @hufc2011 and 52UltraAslan52

True, but at that time (1989-1990 i guess) the passback rule wasn't applied at that time, so goalkeepers could still grab the ball, when a teammate played it to them.

  • PASSBACK 0:06

  • @52ultrAslan52 at that time passback was legal :)....it wasnt till i think 1992 that the passback was illegal

  • Forza Oranje!!!!

  • Barça philosophy

  • @paredesgustavo

It was Michels and Cruyff who introduced total football at Barcelona in the 70's. They brought this philosophy to Barcelona not the other way around.

  • @indivum it was Rinus Michels more than anyone...but yes Cruyff did implement it in someway at Barcelona.

  • @indivum With all respect...

It was Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels at AFC AJAX who introduced Total Football in the early 1970's. When AJAX won the European Cup three times in a row.

"Total Football" (Dutch: totaalvoetbal) is the label given to an influential tactical theory of association football in which any outfield player can take over the role of any other player in a team. It was pioneered by Dutch football club Ajax from 1969 to 1973"

  • @indivum Okay, i should really learn to read ;)

I understand your comment now, and your right Cruyff and Michels brought it to Barcelona.

At first instance i thought u said that Barcelona invented it. Sorry ;)

  • @indivum

stefan covaci invented it, cruyff learned it from him

  • @indivum barc use more of tiki taka

  • Masterful

  • PASSBACKK 0:07

  • the back-pass rule wasn't introduced until 1992.

  • @monkeysuitman there are no rules in football.

  • @monkeysuitman there are no backpass rule.

  • You should have seen holland - england yesterday. it was almost like seeing barca vs almeria, amazing passing skills from the dutch.

  • great goal total football unique system of play. must be hard to do. everyone has to be on the same wavelength

  • Hollands goal vs. Ireland in 96 (finished by Kluivert) was even better. There are many goals that Holland scored in this fashion(string of passes eventually followed up by a goal).

  • Brilliant.

What was the score before this set of plays was made? I'm curious about the offensive/defensive context.

  • toying with the enemy:)

  • Great team goal, 30 odd passes, class.

  • Great team goal!!!
