As an American living in Wales now I'm fine with most people's English except in the UK. My Scottish friend is the worst. But i digress when I travel I try and make my self seem as non ignorant as possible. But then I see the other Americans and its like we give out passports only if the state department judges you as the worst people we can send to represent our country. Just believe me when I say we're not all bad people
@JS500Y The American tourists I've met here in Australia have been friendly, respectful and keen to learn about aussie culture. If you want to see ignorant offensive tourists go to Bali or Thailand and try to talk to an aussie. They'll be the ones wearing Bintang singlets.
As an American, I find this hilarious. I really don't understand why so many Americans have such trouble with other accents. With the amount of idiocy in this country now I wouldn't be surprised if half of us could find the US on a map anymore, much less the UK or Australia. I think we could fit the number of intelligent Americans nowadays into Rhode Island and still have too much space to know what to do with.
I suppose we need to clarify. ITS NOT THE ACCENT thats the problem ... just some sections of Yank society (and not all i must qualify here) are so damn THICK!! they are laughable. they wouldnt even know the difference between Australian and Austria
I wouldn't be surprised if the guy was an actor. I'm American and I laughed at this, but I honestly hope those from the UK don't actually believe all Americans are like this...
@asitejust4u Well I went to Australia and no one could understand what I was saying, so I suppose that means all those silly Australians are complete dumbasses too.
@garfert I was being sardonic. Australians, of course, are not dumbasses for not understanding Americans, just as Americans are not dumbasses for not understanding the Brits. The problem with not understanding does not usually have to do with how words are said, but what is said with them. Euphemisms from others counties are very hard to understand, and many people use them without realizing that they are euphemisms, causing confusion among dialects.
@Shadoessa -- I agree Shadoessa and living in NZ and going out of the country .. couldnt understand Kiwis.. theres some roughies living in Australia as well.
@nsakic no, we don't. Personally, I've got 3 military patches, 1 American flag and one old school American flag that has a serpent entitled "don't tread on this" ...the bag is also orange - never had any problems in europe, israel or the emirates. =)
@nsakic screw that i'd buy a american flag t-shirt with an NRA sticker on my bag asking where a mc donald would be tellin these euro's that we are comin after france
if they did that in australia they would have been laughed at for having the accent of a yank (i know they are aussies)

@1915sanderson That would be because (almost) all the Aussies who go on a holiday to Bali/Thailand are bogans.

American tourists put Canadian flags on their bag packs while traveling in Europe just to avoid detection.
