Actually I think the iron cross originates from the Teutonic Knights.

all i have to compare this to is the other british imports. like the office, queer as folk and coupling. queer as folk did well in the US and the office has a following for it's American version. coupling bombed. but all that being said i think people have to take an unbiased approach to watching shameless. take the show at face value and if you dont like it dont watch it and if you do like it enjoy it.
