The only states that had slavery in the union by the time of the war were border slave states (Kentucky, Maryland etc.) Yes, yankee state did have slavery very ealry on, but the economy did need that type of labor. As a Southerner I'll admit that the South didn't always treat native Americans as well as it should have...but there is a reason all 5 major tribes in Oklahoma sided with the Confederacy. The Confederacy agreed to give them their own state, agreed to have them send delegates to the Confederate Congress and did at least try to keep its word to them re weapons and supplies. The only states that had slavery in the union by the time of the war were border slave states (Kentucky, Maryland etc.) Yes, yankee state did have slavery very ealry on, but the economy did need that type of labor. To reframe history to push an agenda or deny simple facts is truly living in a fantasy world.

The were some women christian groups in New England trying to get rid of slavery, but the real reason slavery ended in the north was the lack of need for it. She told friends that Davis told her they would be installed in the White House, if LIncoln took office, because Davis had already met with Southern military men (like Lee) and many others, to have a military coup.
Davis may have been against secession at one point -- but he planned a military coup, which was treason. And he knew it.

In fact, the first Southern history book -- written by editor or the Richmond newspaper (Pollard) who personally saw this happen, said the war ended because of massive desertions, virtually TOTAL desertions, by Southern soldiers.
