This is a common, tired old idiotic statement. Firstly, the state don't "force" you do anything; joining the army is a choice, like any profession. Secondly, you can't be "sent to die at war" at 16; you can join at 16, but you can't actively serve in battle until you are at least 17 years and 9 months.
