I have sickle disease ss and I would never date someone like me with this horrible disease and watch him suffer like I have, I have 2 beautiful daughters with someone that have no type of any sickle cell or trait gene in him. I would be very stupid to date someone with this disease, and you know that accidents happens, that's playing with fire. if I did that I'll be watch my daughters suffering today.

Sup, i'm a 27/m from FL with SCD...I'm married and no children...My wife doesn't have sc or the trait...& it's hard enuff on my wife when i'm sick and she's stressing because of it, then i'm stressing because she's stressing and so forth...If she were to have SC i couldn't imagine how we'd be able to have anything close to a normal reltionshp/marriage...It would be almost impossible to be there for one anotha in times of crisis...Not to mention the "shouldn't have childeren factor"...Great Post!

I actually only thought of it from the "we have sickle cell children" point and not the my husband will be stressing out and getting sick himself...interesting point...Let me ask you a question. discalis, I'm 35 and I have SS and you are correct, don't let anyone who doesn't have SS change your mind. SS is hard to live with and wanting to bring in a child with SS is irresponsible.

most people don't understand the difference between sickle cell and someone with SS sickle cell.

i concur with most of these ppl i wouldnt date anyone with sickle because i have it and if theres a chance that it goes farther i dont want to have kids with it... so no I my self wouldnt date somebody with sickle cell!

My brother has a trait of ss as well as his baby mother and my nephew wasn't born with it so your right in a way but in anoter way it's possible for two people to have a baby without it even though the parents have it. It's all a matter of being blessed and we can't predict weather it happens or not because the two most healthiest people ever can still have a child that's sick so remember that no matter what the sickness is it's still possible for it to still happen.

Thats true but in another way thats wrong because way take that chance and not all dieases have a slight chance of being transmitted. a lot of relationship now a days are failing, making the wrong choices and harming an innocent child. Your nephew is truly blessed but not all children are. :(

I belive it's ok for two people wit ss can date but I don't think it's right for them to have a child together because that will screw that child up. And like you said it's inconsiderate for two people that have it to even consider having a child under those conditions.BUT, Not everybody is honest and tell their significant other that they are suffering from it til the other person is pregnant then at that point they ask do they have it.

I have SS as I dont think its right but ppl will do what they what to you know some ppl feel that the only ppl that would really understand them is someone that has sickle cell as well I dont think its stupid but thats how some ppl feel about it and if they feel they can take on that life of taking care of them self as well as a sick child then hey... but I wouldnt choose to bring a child in this world with SS that shit (The pain) kills me I dont want that for my child at all.

I would not date a person with sickle cell because i also have sickle cell,and i don't want my child to go through the same thing i go through.I wasnt suppose to make it pass 5 but now im seventeen,and I wouldnt want to risk my child dying at an early age.I also suffer on things like kidney stones i got that from living on the conditions that sickle cell leave me.I don't really dont have good vision and i have a lot of pain episodes i wouldnt want to even risk a child life and make that mistake.
