I've owned this console for a few years now. I don't understand why so many people want videos on "how to use it". This is by far the easiest digital console I have ever used. Manuals are often overlooked for products, but the manual for this is stellar as well. I've seen the lack of motorized faders, but IMO the "fader locate" function is far superior because the motorized faders are always the first thing to break.
@fradily - 1) Match the sensitivity. If you have sub-amps, you must have a x-over. It might have a "sense" capability that can match the sensitivity for you if wired correctly. When the sensitivity is matched, it is still important to recognize that a properly set up system can still thermal the sub-amps. The mix engineer (you) must not over-work the subs. In a typical live scenario, you start by rolling the high-pass filter up to 100 on every channel except kick drum and bass instruments.
@SourceDistributionTV Finally I already got Studio Live 24.4.2, awesome mixer, you could easily notice the diff in headroom and clarity from my old mixer. The only thing concerns me is that it frequenlty trip my sub amps, Im using aux1 for my lows, maybe i need to match the sensitivity of the amps with the output of my presonus as advised.. any comment? Thanks
@Kritter1musicFuneral Hi - just Google 'how to use a mixing desk' and read through the results. The concepts in the StudioLive are common to all mixing desks, so any literature you can find about mixing desks will apply to this too. Then all you have to do is read the manual to find out how the StudioLive does that particular thing. Let us know how you're getting on!
I think most of the things for this mixer are great but what the headroom. Hows the headroom of this 24.4.2. Some one who owns these that you need to set the gain around 12 to 1 o'clock before you will be satisfied about the level of its sounds, unlike other analog branded console10 o'clock setting for each channel gain is just enough..
Yep, I reckon motorised faders probably would have added a fair chunk to the price for sure, LOL! Persons stuff sounds awesome, not as cold a sound as the Yamaha preamps.
@jonnyweston You get used to it - there's a clever system to help reset the faders to the preset position easily. Motorised faders would have considerably increased the cost.
Hey Are you from Northern Ireland (I am), and by any chance do you have any idea where thre might be one of these installed in Northern Ireland.
I was in correspondance with you guys at Source, (Greg) who asked me to check out the where to buy list on the Source website - but alas - like you and I know - northern ireland is a little small as far as music shops are concerned. I am possibly starting to get more interested in this than the 01v96 now.
still waiting to get a chance to use it live now - should be next week with a bit of luck!
Very pleased with it so far, having only used it at home so far with capture - the firewire return feature on each channel is incredible. Really well thought out.
I do very much miss my moto-faders though form my previous desks
I would have bought one..... Were it not for the fact that it did not have motorised faders, so I opted for a Yamaha 01v96 with the FireWire mLan card instead. It does everything that I can see the presonus doing - but with layered faders for effects, aux sends, main fader groups etc etc. Actually can't think of something that the pre does that the Yam doesn't, maybe aviom support is missed maybe??
This looks great but is really let down by not having motorised faders. When using as a control surface in a DAW it's no good if the faders don't follow automation. I've heard these desks and they have great pre amps. It would also be really nice to have the 10 AUX sends appear on the faders if they were motorised, I'll keep hopeful for the next version, motorised faders please!!
My employer is a dealer for Presonus. I got one at cost, but even at retail price this thing has a ridiculous amount of capability, and the head room on the amps is awesome, especially if you are using good quality mics. I didn't realize how much CRAP I was sending to my amps until I got this mixer.
i wish it had adat protocol capabilities so that if i wanted to use oh say my motu 896 mod as the main converters and this desk as the controller, i could. but i cant, but other then that, this thing rocks big time..
Hello, channels are saved individually so you save after you set a particular channel so that that channel's settings are in a unique location. That way you save a particular channel's settings for later recall,
each time you program a channel, after you finish it,do you need to store it first before proceeding to channel 2 or you can do it all together after everything has been programmed?and can i just save only one channel as a preset or or do i need to save it all?.thanks.
Are there any differences between the 16.4.2 and the 24.4.2, other than the obvious difference in the number of channels?

@fradily StudioLive's are all running a 32 bit floating point summing engine, so have very high headroom.

@jonnyweston Please get in touch with Dawsons Music, who are based in Bangor, County Down! They should be able to source StudioLive's for you.
