  • You are making me so hungry. Why are you doing this?

  • 1:07 sounded like he said roast asparagus with prosciutto and poached-dick

  • "What do you do before you serve it?"

    Me: "WARM THE BOWLS!"

    "Taste and adjust for seasoning!"

  • Found this on net: "Green garlic is only available from march -may, if you can’t find green garlic, I’ll bet you could get a similar flavor with some regular garlic - much less, though - and some chopped leek"

  • Comment removed

  • what is kayan? i had no idea 'bout it.. please tell me.. :)

  • @feraoctavia *sigh lmgtfy.com/?q=cayenne+pepper

  • can you use sour cream?

  • @MysticLight174 You could try it, but you have to be careful the sour cream doesn't separate and curdle. Better to be safe than sorry if you went through that much trouble.

  • Herb distribution? Which ones?

  • @foreverblu96 No, it's a different vegetable.

  • can i use bouillon cubes?

  • I SEE YOU FROM THE SPOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those look like spring onions not galic o.o

  • 4:15 OH HAI! :)

  • This Leek Potato Soup is simple to make. Thank Q

  • @foreverblu96 It looks more like a baby leek

  • 4:49 small soup drips of the spoon - 4:51 drip magically disapears. Thats the power of shef Jhon right there folks.

  • Lol, you sold pot in culinary school? like most of us.

  • You can see his reflection in the spoon at the end, haha.

  • delicious

  • 54 people don't know the difference between a scallion and green garlic.

  • i hate....HATE!!!! onions But i love...LOVE!!!! garlic. CAN I use garlic.

  • I tried it, and it was stunning delicious! I used spring onions.

But I still don't get it: "garlic" doesn't taste anything like "onion".

    Garlic is garlic

    Onion is onion

    HUUUUGE Difference

  • is green garlic like spring onions ?

  • Looks delicious and I'm gonna try it!

But I'm a little bit confused: You said "green garlic" but it looks like spring onions (german: Lauchzwiebel) to me.

    Please explain.

  • @fuertherbube thats what i thought they look like spring onions to me

  • @fuertherbube Green garlic is just garlic that has been picked before it fully develops. Thats why it looks like spring onions. The flavor is like that of garlic only more mild and less bitter.

  • @inept0

That's what I had in mind too. But probably it's very unusual in germany and hard to get, because there are almost no requests.

As an alternative, maybe I can use ordinary garlic as well.

  • @inept0 It's called LEEK.

  • @Vleesball you might be right, but generally leeks are significantly larger than this size

  • haha, minor in herb distribution! Love you Chef John!!! and your humor =D

  • haha the "oold smasha smasha" :) Gotta love chef John :p

  • Chef John I love your videos! Keep up the great work

  • I made this soup with green ONIONS as substitute for the garlic and I just made sure to add garlic cloves. It came out AMAZING.

  • where can you find the green garlic thingis those are soooooooooooo good .... my parents grow them but they obviously dont last long especially when i come over lol

  • @foreverblu96 This is how garlic looks before it matures. Yes, it looks similar to green onion, but it is not the same and has a garlic flavor

  • Funny thing is, I probably would splash myself with hot stock.

  • @foreverblu96 No, this is how garlic looks before it reaches maturity.

  • I'm making this right now, I hope it turns out ok lol :)

  • smasha smasha :D

  • How did you find such fresh garlic? I made this today, and the garlic was a bit old, and it felt like a broom.

  • herb distribution? don't you mean street pharmacist? lol

  • LOL I minored in herb distribution in culinary school

  • It looks great:) But I think it might be better to boil potatoes that are not pealed yet, then peel them and add them to the soup, this way the potatoes taste more potato..ishXD..and I think a little bit of nutmeg would go great with it too!

  • You're a genius... I love your videos!!!!!!

  • MIKU HATSUNE

  • @burstingice LEEK! :D

  • Anyone else see john in the spoon :p

  • aren't those just green onions?

  • @msfashionlover It is green garlic

  • Lol or bacon..or ham..OR..shitake mushrooms

  • green garlic is garlic before it has matured

  • @foreverblu96 Shouldn't be, there's an ingredient called garlic chives (we grow it in our garden) that might be what he reefers to. It's somewhere between a green onion, a chive, and garlic, it's delicious.

  • green onion?

  • @foreverblu96 I think they're different

  • chef john! I can't find any green onion where i live. is there any ingredient to put instead?

  • making this today!

  • I made this, but used leeks instead of green garlic (couldn't find it at the supermarket, and didn't want to go to a smaller market), was great minus the hairs from the leeks.

  • Made this. It was delicious.

  • OK, this is one recipe I need to make of yours. I saw this when it was released and can't stop wondering how it tastes.

  • herb distribution? XDD

  • Did anyone else get a 14:53 long ad before the video? weird...

  • 0.54

    (everybody sing)

    #So, my garlic is prepped

    I'm gonna set that aside

    Walking in a winter wonderland#

    >:-P

  • What herb were you distributing in culinary school? =P

  • STOP PLAYING WITH THE SOUP AND EAT IT! No offence, Chef John

  • can i use milk instead of cream?

  • Chef John is my hero.

  • i can live with just potatoes rice pomelo (ill get all my hydration from pomelo)

  • you always make me hungry chef ~

  • YES

  • I plan on making this soup this evening. We'll see how it turns out!

  • Thanks Chef John, I never knew garlic looked like that i just assume they were spring onions before. Love you show!

  • What type of sandwich do you think would go best with this soup?

  • herb distribution...nice :P

  • @bamahsan i c wut u did thar... >.>

  • You make is look and mind taste it so delicious! :O

    *Mouth Water*

  • "Herb distribution" wink wink

  • Why did you have to soak the potatoes after you cut them?

  • @okashi10 So you can get them ready early on- if you left them in the air they'd go brown and gross; the water keeps them fresh.

  • @himynameishelen Got it, thank you! Kind of like apples.

  • smasha smasha hahahah...sigh...oh chef john u make me laugh...

  • Lol! We can see mini-you in the spoon during the Herb-Distribution part :-)

  • Hey there chef, if I want it thicker than your version, I wonder if it is ok for me to reduce the amount of chicken broth?

  • i thought it was a spring onion???

    It looks fabulous!!!!!!!

    thanks so much Chrf John!

  • @SuzieLady JFGI

  • @kiminokami what does this mean :)

  • @SuzieLady It means "Just Google it".

  • it looks like spring onion

  • @anifz16 JFGI

  • Since you are so awesome at herb distribution, I'll study your technique through your reflection in the spoon. ;)

  • lol we can see u in the spoon :D

  • the chives look like green "Jimmies" candy topping. heh.

  • ok, i am making this tomorrow! but i am still laughing @ "i like to watch my soups", cos i am trying to picture you standing there, watching your soups! i usually go on YT whilst my soups and others cook, maybe that's why i always burn my rice? hmmm

  • John, just wondering, have you any published cookbooks availble to buy?. Thank-you.

  • hey chef, could you achieve the same results using a pressure cooker (if you're in a hurry) or a crockpot (if you're at work) ?

  • Seems odd that you didn't use your submerssion blender 'wand-thinggy'.

  • Would using a stick blender work vs. transferring to a blender? I would assume it would be a bit smoother but still work.

Totally going to try this, I just got some green garlic in my CSA box and wasn't sure what to do with it. Problem solved! Thanks for another great recipe! :)

  • We can see your reflection in the spoon. It has dispelled our suspicion you do these videos in the nude.

  • @PTZ72 I KNEW I WASNT THE ONLY ONE THAT SUSPECTED THAT!

  • @PTZ72 He just knew you could see his reflection in this one so he threw clothes on.

He's still nude in all the others.

  • i googled herb distribution and they gave me like herb suppliers @_@

  • "Dirt not advisable in soup" rofl

  • Chef John, i love how you say "potato" :D

  • perfect for hungry stomach like mine now..gotta go make it!

  • @4:10 you can see chef:)

  • i'm drooling...... now i need a good excuse to make this in a 40 Cº weather.

  • The music definitely helped me masturbate to this video.

  • The ten who disliked are suffering from anorexia nervosa...

  • THIS is how you make soup.

  • i think you missed a part, where does the garlic comes in?

  • Ehm? Why is springonions being referred to as garlic? XD

  • @BeardedDanishViking Because it is young garlic plants not onion ,if left in the ground it would become garlic bulbs

  • it is always the chicken/vegetable stock ... dam it could u please use a MORE NATURAL ingredient?

  • @brackpersian How is stock unnatural? Just don't buy the crappy canned stuff, make sure to use a good quality stock. Or make your own.

  • @brackpersian What would you suggest as an alternative?

  • You use the ol' smasha-smasha? I use the ol' forka forka.

  • Yummy

  • I thought they were called leek not garlic? Is there different names for them or..

  • @1Blackhaired Leaks are bigger, cane-like and not at all garlic

  • Ah! I can see Chef John reflected in the spoon when he's sprinkling garlic on the soup at the end :)

  • Nice to see you once in a while chef John. Even if is just he reflexion on the spoon! Great recipe!

  • Such a fantastic looking, hot and luxurious bowl of vomit.

  • I love sooooooooooup!

  • Chef John, what if I don't have green garlic? What are the substitutes?

  • @hajijackson I'd assume these kinds of questions would generally receive a sarcastic response from Chef John, so I'll help you out. The proper substitute is getting in your car and going out to buy some green garlic.

  • I always thought those were green onions 0_o

  • @clpolly Green onion and young garlic pretty much look the same... if your not sure smell it.

  • Can we simply mash softened the potatoes with the wooden spoon?

  • can you use other meat than pork? i can't eat pork

  • i love your videos!

  • this looks really good..looked up green garlic so I would know what it is..its young garlic..? lol...thought it was another word for mountain garlic those people call rams..

  • ur a complete douche in ur comments you realise

  • Chef John, where do you get extremely sharp knives like that?

  • @xphatmexicanx I guess he sharpens them every once in a while.

  • I love how you call the scallions "green garlic." That's why you are brilliant.

  • @meggiemeg86 wisegeek dot com /what-is-green-garlic.htm

  • @meggiemeg86 green garlic is actually its own separate thing. They are not the same as green onions. Green garlic are young garlic plants that are pulled before they have had a chance for the root bulb to form. They are usually the plants pulled when thinning the garlic crop. You could substitute green onions, but I would recommend adding some cloves of garlic to the recipe, leeks, shallots, or mixture thereof until you find a combination you enjoy.

  • hi chef! great video as always :) howcome you didn't use your immersion blender? and where did you buy your bowl and plate? thanks :)

  • John, i wish you had a restaurant of your own, so everyone can taste this soup made specifically by you.

  • few things...

I still splashed the damn potatoes... this was amazing

and are you sick? or going through puberty... again?

  • why do you pronounce potato potatuh

  • This looks so good! I love your recipes

  • LOL He said "Burn your face!" so enthusiastically...

  • I do not want to go vegetarian.... I'll stick with bacon.

  • Green garlic? Isnt that green onion?

  • herb distribution FTW!

  • @lalabear18 aka drugs

  • I just made this soup for dinner tonight and it was awesome. If you're like me and hate cleaning blenders, just use an immersion stick blender. It works just as well and there is no hassle of cleaning a blender.

  • whats the diff between the green garlic and spring onion?

  • @laleelay They are one and the same in my mind. They're simply have a different title depending on country you're in.

  • @z3061328 OK! Finally! :) Confused all these yearssssssss

  • why do you pronounce fantastic "vantastic"

  • @SahunterJ17 That's how you're suppose to say it.

  • @foodwishes are you sure :3

  • @foodwishes no you arent

  • @foodwishes i think prosciutto's pronounced pro-shoot-toe !

  • @SahunterJ17

    You say tom-ay-toe, I say tom-ah-toe. :)

  • @malayrojak you sa po-tay-toe i say po-tah-to

  • @SahunterJ17

    :) Love it!

  • @SahunterJ17 Its because He's a vampire!:)

  • this is amazing ;D

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • herb distribution? sounds like my major in college.

  • @KiNPiN1835 Mine was: "How do you blow this off and still pass?"

  • Good thing he wasn't working naked...or people would've caught him. He's already accused of making food porn.
