Dicty is a classic example of a living system displaying non equilibrium properties. In fact, if cells of Dicty are grown in a petri dish and if the nutrient medium begins to be depleted, then the cells will forms these spirals similiar in shape and size to BZ chemical reactions. For details I recommend the book "The Physical Chemistry of Biological Organization" by Arthur Peacocke.
