  • omg a harness?? thats so weird lol

  • I love how happy you looked haha! I bet it's great now, after all these years.

  • Ugg I hate doing axels in the harness (well double axels) because I swing too much. I much prefer to do them off the harness, I actually land more off. Now triple is another story. Those are just plain fun on the harness :D

  • i wish our rink had a harness!

  • at one of my old ice rinks, we had a much different harness. i loved the harness but we never had sometehing like that. our harness was like there was a line on the ceiling and then the handle the coach pulls to help you get up higher was on the side and they didnt have to really follow you like that. haha just saying =P

but axels are so awkward at first =P but once you land them, it feels great

  • omg, NOO!!! I had no harness when i learnt it

  • cool!!never did that before, but i'm going to a skatingcamp this summer and they have one there,so i hope i can try it with a harnass to!!

  • i love doing axels and doubles on the harness! its sooo much fun! :)

    good job!

  • is that coach jonnansical boo?

  • yup..

  • oh ok..do you still learn skating?

  • yes...i'm under zhao yang now after jonn went to kallang.

  • oh ok..can i have you e-mail then we can talk on msn?i am also skating..my coach is jon!but i am still new i just learn finish my freestyle 1 elements!

  • lol. i was actually happy i didnt have to use the harness. ive already landed but then i took a break during the 07 summer. thank god i landed it again. personally i tihnk its easier without a harness

  • really? i hope i land it soon..

  • @sk8ergirl2014 have you landed it yet?

  • lucky duck :) my coach made me learn it the old fasion way haha. "start from three backward crossovers and just throw yourself up" haha.

  • i've been so busy i had to time to skate recently...i'm still not improving on it, sadly. but i expect to go off the harness soon. it's been half a year since this video. i went through a change of coach, exams, injuries. hope you won't encounter such problems and just GO FOR IT!! =)

  • that was really good! how long have you been skating? =D

  • since october 2004...but i got injured a lot (once knee ligament and now ankle) so i kept having to restart all over. injured my knee on double salchow! had to fall all the way back down and climb up again. so i'm still really low level.

  • oh cool! you learnt a double sal? i just started learning my axel and i started skating in 2007. yeah, injuries suck especially when they prevent you from going to higher levels.

  • you managed to learn the axel within one year of starting? that's amazing.

  • haha there about. haven't landed it yet though. and my coach won't let me use the harness. is it fun as it looks?

  • i took more than 2 years to start learning it. but then i only train once a week..i personally won't rely so much on the harness even though i'm on it. my coach wanted me to use my own power to launch myself up or it will just defeat the purpose of learning it. the harness just gives you that little bit of extra that you need to complete your rotation and possibly even to land it.

  • oh. yeah, that's what my coach says. how long did it take you to land it? urgh. it's such a tricky jump. i train once a week too cause i'm 15 and have LOTS of school work everyday. but anyway do you have any tips for the axel? =D

  • i haven't landed it before. because i just got injured again and i'm starting all over...working on loop now. i'm 16, so you can imagine i'm busier than you...tips for the axel..i never seen you skate so i can't really tell. but my problem is that i don't jump UP, i jump FAR and that's not really necessary and is just a waste of energy...

  • oh yeah...i need to try to jump higher. urgh my back spin isn't as good as i want it to be so i think it'll affect my axel. and wow, i wish i could skate when i'm 16. i wanna land doubles by next year. =D good luck with your o levels. =)

  • my back spin isn't good either! esp now with my right ankle..so i gotta start working on it! do we know each other?

btw, i'm sure you can still skate next year. once a week is not going to affect your studies greatly. most importantly is time management! try not to let your homework pile up too near your skating day. then you can skate guilt-free!

  • YAY. yeah, thanks for the homework tip. time management is really important, i do think. =) hmm...i'm using my friend's account cause we share one but my name is alethea. hmm..i don't think we've met you or if we did, i probably forgot. hahhaha i've made so many new friends through skating.

oh but are you competiting in interschool? if you are i'll probably see you =D

  • i have another friend named alethea too!! and i don't think we met. i would remember a name like that. i'm not competing in interschool...sure you know why. haha. but i always go and watch competitions. and i usually stay all day to watch everyone. tiring. but i don't really mind. haha! ^^

  • yay so i'll see you there. you can help me calm down hahahah i always get really nervous before my routines. heheh let's see if we can spot each other =D unlikely, seeing we've never met hehehe.

  • i'll spot you. since they will be announcing you, it's hard to miss. ;)

  • haha okay. see ya..=D

  • not hard with someone holding you up! i could do with one of them for my double loop they good

  • absolutely. i still haven't landed it yet. i changed coaches a couple of months ago and spent loads of time going back to singles. just started working on it!

  • cool!

i landed my axel (off ice) about 4 months ago and i was like O.M.G lol

    good luck ;]

  • thanks! i used to be able to do axel off ice. but nowadays, it feels really different from on ice so i lost the feeling (off).

  • Very nice video. I can do off ice axels easily since october and i wonder, can you pls explain more about the difference you feel between off and on the ice?

  • sure. but all i can give is my opinion. not everyone may feel the same. off ice, as i step your left foot down, it's just a feeling of putting your foot down. but on ice you kinda have to glide it forward while pressing on left outside edge..so this (for me) makes the take-off on ice and off-ice feel different.

  • also, when you have your skates on, it definitely feels heavier than with regular shoes on. so in a sense, i feel i have to swing harder to get the same swing i have off-ice. if i use the same amount of energy, my leg barely looks like it's swinging!

  • oops, i meant "as i step MY left foot down"...i hope i helped..i'm not very good at explaining..oh and also off ice, you can land underrotated and nothing will happen to you. but on ice, you will fall, most probably..unless you do the hop-hop thing

  • No problem, i understood very well. Thanks a lot and it was a pleasure to watch you :)

  • you're very welcome ^^

  • Maybe i better work with some small weights over my ankles to support this case.

  • I understand. That is something I can already feel on the ice so i ve no problem about it.

  • I wish we had a harness at our rink. They seem like a wonderful tool to gain confidence while trying new jumps. Fear of falling really slows progress! ps. Nice axel!

  • thanks! i know some rinks where they don't have fixed harnesses, they have portable ones that the coaches bring around on the ice. i still haven't landed it though..

  • Probably wishful thinking that our rink will get one...I think they are worried about the person holding on at the other end possibly letting go or injurying themselves. We don't have any beams or rafters that the harness can loop over, either! So there will continue to be lots of sore bottoms in the meantime. Best of luck with the axel...I think your are pretty close to getting it!

  • at our rink, only coaches are allowed to handle it. and we can only use it during our lesson...so there'll be no one misusing it.

  • Your axel is nice, you cheated the take off tho...
