I didn't know the Adantes had a hand in the background. I always thought it was Mary and Flo being overdubbed on some of the background. Still I love this album and Diana sounds great on this song though I think Flo would've given it hell had she sang it. Rodgers and Hart became my favorite when it came out. I was shocked at that time in 1967 for Flo had just left the group and I didn't want to believe that she was really gone. It was hard for me to accept it.
@Vincent50 Oh. LOL! What a coincidence. I just replied to your comment on "YOU DIDN'T CARE". I guess it was only fate that I stumbled on another comment of yours.
There is supposedly an unreleased version of this song with all three girls singing lead, like "It Makes No Difference Now". Maybe it will be released in another "unreleased songs" c.d.
Yes...but they(ESP. Flo) are great in the background!! The Andantes...(ESP. Louvain!) are sounding great! Louvain should've been signed to a record deal with Motown. And lastly, DIANA on this lead..she's so SINCERE!!
You should listen to tumbling tumbleweeds where EVERYONE(EVEN Diana, herself) is SANNGING the hell out of the responses to the lead!!
strawberry19919, I love the girls' going for it on Tumbling Tumbleweeds . . . just fab . . . and Diana's voice is clear on this, with Flo and Mary doing great background vocals!!!
When I first heard this album/song I was maybe 10 in 1966 when I heard a neighbor playing this album. I couldn't believe it was my girls singing and they sounded so different singing this kind of music. I fell i love with this album and its still my favorite for the girls were developing into international singers. This is the kind of singing that the girls were taken away from when they became a huge success.
Vincent 50 - I was a couple few years older than you when this album came out. I had the exact same reaction that you just described. I just think this is great music and the ladies do it great justice. Do you like the Rogers and Hart album too?
You said it was unreleased, but this is the same version on the album. However, I read that there is an unreleased version with all three Supremes singing lead, like on "Makes No Difference Now". I wonder if that version will ever be released?
In an album called 'The Scene Changes' Perry Como went to Nashville backed by the best there. Floyd Cramer,Boots Randolph,The Anita Kerr Singers and did a fantastic version of this song of Willie Nelson's Youth. It was recorded at the RCA Nashville Sounds Studio in 1960.

Lovely version - very unusual country feel for the Supremes - Diana's voice almost has the intimacy of the original.

This is not bad but I would have like to hear Flo or Mary do this song.

I love her delivery, & I'd REALLY love it had they lowered her key, but, Motown used to raise them back then.
