i have this same exact microwave and i will never get rid of it. it is a testament to true quality craftsmanship, unlike the cheap disposable products manufactured today. Amana always has and will make a good quality product.
We had a microwave from 1979 up until about 8 years ago. It weighed about 70 pounds, and was sweet with big chrome knobs, but it shot lighting bolts at the food, spattered it all over the inside, and burned it!
I still use a 1987 Amana RS471P Radarange microwave almost daily. It was my grandmother's, and when she passed away, I took this along with her Kirby Classic III, a Zenith Transoceanic radio and a great Zenith TV with Space Command remote. She always bought the best quality possible.
I used professional Amanas in my buuiness back in the 90s and they were good. Before Amana, we used Litton until it went out of business. (70s - early 90s).
The West building is an office building named for the businessman W.W. West in Midland, Texas. I have heard about the Amana colonies and I remember getting a catalog one time which had smoked hams and other food products from them.
My step-mother had an Amana back in the 70's. It was big and had the two dials you mentioned. It was the first one I ever used. I thought it worked well. I remember that they cost a lot back then.
we had a big old hotpoint microwave for years until it finally quit. it had a probe you could put in whatever you were heating so it could shut off automatically when soup or what ever reached a certain temp. i kind of miss that feature. lately i have the problem of getting stuff too hot or too cold.
My parents had an old Amana from the late 70s until I was about 16. It was built like a tank! Accept it didn't have dials. It had push buttons I believe. It was almost the same model as this one in your viideo. It had the same push button starter buttons at the bottom like yours.
"Radarange" very true to its name ^^ I have a 1986 Wards digital microwave, we've had it since new, never any problems! it doesn't have a turntable either, it's got a stirrer in the top
Those original Amana's were the 57 Chevy of microwaves. I like the pull down doors they had too, nice place to pull the food to if it was hot. Who heard of Amana before the "radar range"?
What happened to Litton? I think it was a division of Raythion. If I recall, Litton was the first to mas produce microwave ovens for home and business. The commercial model was sure to burn something if you gave it a 6! I had a Litton in my coffee shop back in the 70s. Built like a tank!
Nice microwave! A bank I clean has an old radarange from the 70's with the 2 dial setup you were talking about. The whole unit is stainless steel and chrome. Too bad it's really dirty. I'm guessing it's about a '75 or so model. I'll have to make a quick video of it.
My 1977 has a big dial for time and two slides for power levels. I also have a Touchmatic (Feb. 1981) with the red digital display.

OK, I didn't think about the stirrer! I used it again today and everything did come out heated evenly, no hot spots.

If I remember we only bought a new microwave because the other one was 'old' not because it was broken or anything.
This looks real quality!
Nothing beats a nice ready meal when you're alone most of the time like I am LOL. :)

Nice stainless interior. The old Littons which also were real popular back then usually had painted steel which rotted out around the door seal.
