I always assumed there WAS no character confusion. Sally Brown's loving Schroeder seems so much more pathetic, being unrecognized by ANYONE thanks to that loud and pushy Lucy Van Pelt and her attention hogging ways.

I kinda thought that was the point. No one knew.

I HATE HOW IT SAYS SALLY INSTEAD OF LUCY! i mean come on, sally never sits at lucy's piano! did he make a mistake in the name or does he honestly think sally is lucy's name? its a cute song, but that just pisses me off.

Actually, he says that although Sally and Schroeder would be a better match, and that over the course of their years that she would take the place of Lucy in trying to get Schroeder's attention. But, seeing as there wasn't any animated clips of Sally brown sitting down at the piano, the person who used the clips to make this unofficial music video didn't try to fake it or modify the frames to make it work with the song better.

Pete Mitchell, the lead singer/songwriter always thought that Lucy didn't truly love Schroeder, and that Sally would be a better fit. Hence the change. Also, it rhymes. "Sally Brown sits down". And it fits the rhythm.  Lucy Van Pelt is just a mouthful. XD
