@raouldukelives i hate those cars as much as the next guy but its not their fault, its the companies who tested the rig 3 times and it failed all 3 times yet they didnt stop drilling, and the all the republicans and probably most of the democrats who defend those companys and call for less regulation, if they had regulated the oil rig, it would not have been allowed to run untill it was safe enough, which it wasnt

The point people are making, asshole, is that there are obviously better alternatives to off-shore drilling. We aren't OUT of oil yet, and we've been sitting on myriad alternative fuel technologies for decades. The oil industry sees to it that they're kept out of widespread use. No one technology should "replace" oil; in fact, the healthiest thing for the environment AND the economy is for vehicles to be available with a wide variety of fuel types.

The problem is we run on a free market system. Nobody is going to start mass producing alternative energy if IT DOESNT MAKE ANY MONEY. You want to FORCE companies to start producing alternative energy which is more a cost for them than a profit. That makes no sense.

The only reason it doesn't make money is because oil companies partially run the country. They have a monopoly too big for anyone to challenge and at this point they're doing nothing but harm to everyone and everything else in order to keep making a living off something less and less sustainable. In other words, fuck them.

Oil is a dying industry, why? Because eventually there will be nothing to sell or buy. New alternative energy expands the market to new jobs/technicians, new products, new designs and new companies. It might not make as MUCH of a profit, but Americans will still have to pay for alternative energy in one way or another because the average American doesn't exactly know how to make solar energy into usable energy or how to build and install a giant windmill.
