I'm with pcfd20 I never went to college and I'm a firefighter in Benton la. I took my first responder EMT and firefighter 1 through my school my senior year
If your really a firefighter and saying this.. I question you being a firefighter. 1. There are fire dept's that send new rookies through fire academy. 2. There are fire dept's which do their own training on the job such as all 4 fire dept's here.
Also EMT-B is what most fire dept's want when hiring a firefighter around here. Having experience on an ambulance gives you a leg up on applying.
One dept's rules doesn't apply to every fire dept in the nation, a "real" firefighter would know this.
@ArmyRescue2 no im saying its a joke that a fucking high school has a fire science program, like their actually able to do anything or even have 1/5 of the training i have as a CAREER firefighter, i went through the college classes to get my diploma in fire protection...i dont think a pimply face kid should be a "firefighter"
@RacersMoment This pimply faced FF just may be on your RIT team one day. and I support all the kids who want to be Firefighters because you never know, it may be your ass on the line
@RacersMoment I didn't go to collage to become a firefighter, yet here i am.. Does that mean I'm less of a firefighter? Get over you self, i think its great to have this program in high school(wish mine did back in the day!).. They get to explore a career and "know" if they want it when they go off to collage.. It preps them for the future.
However i highly question you being a "career firefighter" since none of us would put down any one wanting to become a firefighter.. You make me sick..
@pcfd20 your a career firefighter? and you didnt go to college?? thats bs, because i had to work for years applying to even get concidered, where you live they must be hurting for firefighters, where i live, if you dont have your degree as a fire protection technician they throw your app. away...then you have to have leadership skills, proof of those skills, trained up to a paramedic level, and have taken 2 college spanish classes...those are the minimum requirements...
I went through the Wilco Fire science program in Illinois when I was a High School senior. The only thing we did not get to do was burn down an actual structure for training purposes. We had pan burns, small structure burns, S&R, Extrication, Ropes & Knots and even First responder + CPR. After going through a fire academy for my FF2 , the only difference I noticed was a few more specialized areas of study and state tests. I am now employed with Troy FPD. Pride. Perseverance.
@RacersMoment ur not a firefighter, talking like that, if u are a firefighter ur in it for the wrong reason with an attitude like that, i would have loved to have somthing like this in my school, but i had to go out and find out all the info and training that it would take to be a fiefighter by myself, these programs are very helpful to a lot of people. Once again if u are a firefighter stay safe and have a change of attitude. or just keep it to yourself
