I have read the book "the ultimate sniper" and I have to say that his techniques might seem old, but they work. i have used them 3 times out of my 4 tours in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. I have to say that the book is better in an explanative point of view. Oh, and one more thing, you just cannot come into the military (Marines) and become a sniper. You have to be infantry and show an extraordinary effort in fieldcraft and infantry tactics.

Important tips: Don't use any black dye or paint on your ghillie. Black is not a natural color that you would find in nature, so don't use it. Also, make sure you strip you burlap, the guy in the video did not. The end result looks much better,.

@echelonexcursions Making it invisible is almost impossible. A German company has recently mad a tent that can hid your FLIR signature. However, they have yet to incorporate it into personal camouflage. The US military does us a 50/50 NYCO (Nylon/Cotton) blend in their uniforms that does make it hard to detect with normal IR.

I am an airsoft sniper and i am needing to make a ghillie suit but i need to know do you tie the net to coveralls of do you tie them to separate pieces e.g. jacket, trousers and hat.

Net sewn to skivs and curved material or "fuzzled" burlap tied to netting.

shoe goo netting to the coveralls, or whatever your going to use. then overhand knot the burlap into the netting.

either is acceptale, while a coverall provides continuity and makes you more difficult to see, two pieces allow for more manuverability. (As a fellow airsoft sniper, i prefer coveralls, but its up to you)

@survivalkid2452 I am currently work on a Ghillie myself, the easiest way (in my opinion) is to take the net and cut it into strips and sow those on to your BDUs or what ever you choose, and just add a jute base. Then buy about one yard of burlap and add it in where ever you choose. It will look good, thats how I did mine, and doing my new one because my old ones were to small. It shouldn't take long doing it this way, I've been working on my for about a day and 1/2 and its almost done.

you take 2-3 strands and take the tops and tie them to the net. do that from bottom to top. thats if your using burlap. if your using the stuff these guys r using . follow what they say.

I am a big fan of this construction of the ghille suit, the combination of strips of burlap and strings of jute are perfect. I find that the suits that are all jute thread look like chubacka from star wars.

that was great, so far i have made about 5 complete gillie suits, all different to the last, what i would love to know is how can you make a gillie suit that is water proff and not stink so much as to spook every deer from a mile away, currently im shooting .338 laupa mag at about 200 2 300 mtrs out in the open, its very cold and rains alot in sth gippsland victoria Australia, sweeting to much is a no no. comments?
