I am opposed to the grooming of UK girls by Muslims (or by anybody else) but there is no evidence that this is happening because of Islam. To reiterate, I'm against paedophilia and child abuse no matter who is responsible for it. I wouldn't defend a paedophile Muslim cleric any more than I would a paedophile Catholic priest.

If on the other hand you can show me evidence that high-ranking clerics in the Islamic world have been using their power to protect paedophiles and obstruct justice as certain high-ranking member of the Catholic Church have done, then we'd have something to discuss.

@amaqula Child rape is the raping of a person under the age of consent. The people who commit the crime do not give a damn what the age of consent is, because they do not ask for consent. The current Pope has actively protected people who have done this from being prosecuted, and threatened members of his own church not to report such matters to the police. I cannot support any state which answers to such an authority, and luckily this isn't the only alternative to a Caliphate.

@amaqula Before he became Pope, Ratzinger was head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. In 2001 in his capacity as head of the CDF, he issued a letter to every bishop in the church instructing them that adultery with a minor was a delict reserved to the responsibility of the CDF and that these cases were subject to the pontifical secret. Anyone breaking this secret is subject to automatic excommunication. He has not cleared paedophilia out of the Church, he tries to conceal it.

@amaqula Actually, a case is being prepared which may go to the ICC. There is no police force which has the capacity to arrest the Pope, nor is it guaranteed that the letter he sent, which says exactly what I said it did, would be considered illegal by any court other than the ICC. The Church's own figures state that they believe that between 1.5% and 5% of priests have commited sexual crimes. That isn't safe at all. The Catholic Church continues to balk at the idea of any priest being tried.

Ratzinger was directly involved in this as he expressly ordered bishops not to report crimes to the police on pain of excommunication. His co-signer on that letter, Bertone, has stated that their intention was to prevent police involvement.

@amaqula Finally I must add that there is no evidence of a deliberate cover-up of sexual abuse in secular society, which there is within the Catholic Church involving thousands of priests and tens of thousands of victims, alongside documents written and signed by the present Pope. If there was such a cover-up in secular society then I would oppose just as I oppose the decision of high-ranking members of the Catholic Church to defend people who rape children from sexual abuse laws.

A swift retraction of one's poorly judged comments and a heartfelt apology is usually good enough for most people, but I think Anthony should tell us who proudly uploaded this most unfortunate video.
