  • brilliant Album - love it!

  • 240P WE MEET AGAIN

  • @sgarrou i could say the same about your copy&paste comment

  • @Ozznize hahahah yes but in this video it takes good!

  • OMG he is such a great player,,,blues basicly..

  • I seriously can't get enough from this Particulr guuy. His sound and electricity when played on stage is incredible... Never see such talent. Same thing for hula hoops and cactus cruz. And what's about Sargasso Sea!?! Thanks a lot for these posts, but Hey! Question; Can you post the hula hoops's studio version ?

  • Where did he go anyway?

  • @runnyrunny999 He's playing for Jason Becker in the Netherlands come November.

  • This comment might be cheesy, but seriously; Do you want me to count all the licks that Michael played that I have never seen any other guitarist play before???:P

  • Does anyone know where I can get the guitar tab for this song?

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is just such underated music. kills me that you hear the top 100 guitarist of rolling stone magazine and the same old names crop up.. guys like MLF are just so unappreciated..

  • @frillylizzard - Rolling Stone magazine have zero credibility as far as I am concerned - they keep touting guys like Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain as in the top 10 guitar players - how the fuck can they justify THAT shit?!

  • @mozzy2410

Beats the shit out of Me Moz, obviously record selling power equates to the way guitarists are rated...

  • Without doubt one of the best and most original guitarists from the golden age of 'Roadrunner/Shrapnell' solo guitar albums way back. So good to see him back recently on YouTube doing the Fender stuff. Don't know what he'd been up to but good to see him back. Whoever posted this, I thank you so much as to see this track played live is awesome!!

  • I think the only problem with this incredible player is that he was ahead of his time.

  • If anyone could come close to Satch in terms of making guitar instrumentals sound melodic and accessible and yet be technically demanding without sounding like musical wankery, its this guy. Awesome!

  • I don't think they were ungrateful.. Just think of how rare it is that a great guitarist comes around, they couldn't believe their ears in my eyes.

  • his debut album was one of the best instrumental guitar albums!!

  • @kevbot71 it was not a bad track

  • When was this concert??

  • sounds almost like the record, thats great cos few gut guitar players sound like their own record live, i wish there where some tabs, if some have them, please i want them to hahaa

  • MLF is an amazing guitarist very underrated! the soul he pours out of that pacifica is incredible.

    as Phrygian12 said..

check out Jason Beckers - End of The Beginning, if noone has.

  • que maestrooo. ademas el graba los temas q jason becker compone desde su silla de ruedas con sus ojos, eso lo hace mas bueno aun.

  • monster ...beautiful piece

  • AH!!!

I have been trying to remember Firkins forever.

It was just one of those names that kept slipping my mind.

  • I bought MLF's first album back in 1991 or '92. It was incredible. His phrasing, expression, sound and overall style made him a league or two above Vai.

The second album, Cactus Cruz, wasn't as impressive, kind of a turnoff. Years have passed, all of my CDs were stolen years ago and I never got to replace his debut album.

Seeing him here brings back great memories, and serves as a reminder of who is who. Check out what he's doing these days. He is friggin' amazing.

  • Este me gusta mas que vai, nose porque, ademas, sabian que solamente usa la distorcion marshall?

  • me hace acordar a steve vai

  • I know this is said about a lot of guitarists, but he is definitely underrated. If you can get a hold of his instructional video I would definitely recommend it.

  • brings back memories

  • i really love his whammy bar techniques.. so cool

  • sounds like Joey Tafolla a little. MLF is really good, never heard of him till now. Check out David T. Chastain, another obscure talent.

  • Yeah I heard this song a shred compilation record, and I was sure that it was Joey Tafolla, but I did research and realized that it was MLF. Great guy!

  • It's a stage mix feed to this audio.

Turn it up louder and you can hear the audience at the end.

Unlike a 'concert dvd' mix, there's no micing up of the audience for ambiance.

  • this dude is awsome, but hey what a ungreatfull misrable audiance.not 1 person applaudes at the end not 1 misrable fuckers

  • I think ur wrong becuse sound was probably recorded from mix, but if u listen very hard you can hear aplause a litle at the and.

  • BUNCH OF MISRABLE CUNTS BWARNA

  • @ibanez777vbk its probably because they're jealous that they cant play like he can, or they're thinking, HOLY SHIT THIS GUY CAN ACTUALLY PLAY BETTER THAN MOST PEOPLE AND IS TALENTED O=, so they are left paralyzed from his guitar mastery.

  • @ibanez777vbk totally. Do they have any idea how hard it is to be that good at playing guitar? Especially a Yamaha.

  • @ibanez777vbk - Hey, cool name! I still have the exact guitar, Mr Jem 777 VBK! And yes, this audience SUCK ass...

  • @mozzy2410 i dont have my jem777vbk anymore i swapped it for a desert yellow vdy jem

  • @ibanez777vbk I read somewhere they were recording straight from the console thats why you cant hear the audience...Dunno if it true..

  • @ibanez777vbk I have this show and they actually are applauding. But it's a soundboard recording and you can only hear what the mikes pick up.

  • @ibanez777vbk So you know, there aren't mics on the audience. Just because you don't hear applause on the recording doesn't mean they didn't applaud. It just wasn't picked up.

  • he aint bad is he :| :P

  • Just found out about him today. Extraodinary, he really is.

  • My favorite is "I Need You". Great blues song!

  • beatifull playing and that yamaha is sweet it s amazing how sounds and how much it cost

  • How have I not heard of this guy until now!?!

    He's awesome!

  • i have tabs mwahahah

  • Dude, you have to give me these tabs!

    Cheers,

  • not hard to figure out by ear.

  • Well, if I could, why would I need the tabs?

  • lazyness? i dunno man but trying to do it by ear will train your ear, and soon you wont need tabs.

  • this huy is awesome, heard him when i was at my guitar lesson and my guitar teacher was playin 24 grand avenue. amazin, totally underrated! god who can this sort of music now, nobody is the answer, all this fancy assed indie/rap crap, gets on my nerves wat happened 2 good music

  • One of my fave 80's shredders, I remember going to a Michael Lee Firkins clinic at Musical Exchanges in Birmingham, England back in the late 80's and he totally blew me away. Interesting composition and style of playing, sounded totally different from what everyone else was doing at the time.

  • Hugely underratted axe slinger.

  • Yeah i also agree with shawn lane, jason in my opinion was better. even his compositioning ability was amazing.

  • Great stuff. He adds a good bit of originality to the genre. Recorded straight from mixer hence the lack of clapping hands.

  • a lot of the 'guitar players' (of the ilk that only guitar magazine readers know)that put out solo records, all seem to have the same derivative blues influenced rock sound... this is in a league all of his own. thanks for posting. never seen footage of him before and have lost my tapes of him :(

  • He sounds like Steve Vai, Jason Becker and Eddie Van Halen in 1. Awesome. :-)

  • lol what? he sounds like MLF to me

the grove dose have that Becker-ish characteristic to it but if you really know Jason Becker he actually got that stuff from MLF so yeah i dont hear any of those 3 in his playing

have you heard Jason's "End Of The Beginning"? MLF did the guitar work on there and he captured Jason's soul so good! seriously its as if Jason played it

  • Add Blues Saraceno

  • Maybe it was recorded directly from the soundboard?

  • I've been watchin vids of this guy play and I'm not completely retarded so I don't think I'm wrong for thinking that the vids are from the same show. I like what I'm hearing but can't understand why the audience is FUCKING Dead.

This guy is kickin all that ass on stage and there's no response from the people...I don't fuckin get it

  • First of all, I agree with you - he's kickin' ass. BUT, he's not a rock star clown, who bounces across the stage being more showman than virtuoso musician. In other words, he's closer to an Eric Johnson type than a guy from Poison. Like EJ, he's focused on the music, not on being an entertainer. And thank god for that because there's way too many of those poser ass clowns as it is. LOL!

But you know what the true shame of it all is? That this guy isn't a household name.

  • Yup...but shit man. Not ONE fucking clap...If it were me I might be a little sad n shit.lol.

Or at least think that I'm doin somethin wrong. People don't go to watch classical guitarist rape on their instruments and expect to see anyone surf the crowds but they still get their standing ovations. Not even a "WOO-HOO"! for this guy

  • You're right. No argument from me. This guy is such a freakin' monster... Isn't it a damn shame that the cream of the crop get practically NO accolades from the media or anyone else? Meanwhile talentless rappers sell 200 million records, drive Bentleys and win grammy awards.

  • well he could be at the wrong place

ive had gigs where the crowed isnt exactly into what ever style you play no matter how great you are

or what im thinking is that its just a recording of the audio and they cut out the video's audio so all you hear is the instruments and Microphones, you do hear like a group(id say 8 people) of claps so..yeah...maybe the crowed just has no rhythm at all and just cant process this wonderful music hes playing...orr since its was in 90s they wanted grunge

  • i'm with you guy :p if i were there i'd be like O_O''''

    anyway... i have tabs! mwahah

  • it might be cut off, he was on saturday night live.

So obviously he was somewhat popular

  • no the song is called "Saturday Night Live"

  • i meant "Saturday Night" the Live was well cause it was a live show

  • uu

    nadie le aplaude a qlo

    ahahah

buen guitarrista no lo conocia xd

  • Wow :)

What a trip down memory lane.

I remember trying to get my head around this song nearly 20 years ago when this album 1st come out.

    Almost drove me bananas...

and now I see how he did it...stupid me for trying to do this using a pick :)

Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Now, I understand why he plays Jason Becker - End of the Beggining

He's really a good guitar player.

  • does anyone know where this guy is from

  • Omaha, Nebraska per his website.

  • He is the man!

  • Whoever posted this, thankyou so much!! I saw MLF on this tour and always wanted to see this track or get a tab as its awesome. Shame he's a bit quiet nowadays. Very, very unique player. AWESOME!!!

  • Same here. Thanks for the upload. I have all his albums, but I've never seen him play this. Most excellent.

  • does anybody know where to get the tab...

I could learn it by ear but it would take MONTHS

  • I'm working on it, so far only a few parts giving me fits. An audio of this would help tremendously. The studio version has a lot of add-on reverb and such cluttering the guitar up. This is pretty clean and would be perfect for slowing down.

  • G3 eat ur hearts out.

    Micheal plays like G100

  • wow I never really checked this dude out back in the 80's but this is pretty cool. I dig the lick

he plays around 1:34 with the bouncy whammy pedal tone thing!

  • michael lee firkins is legend

  • i remember deciding between this tune and Cliffs of Dover to learn on saxophone.. Cliffs turned out more playable for sax.. but when I hear this again.. ahh, I get inspired!

  • Yeah, I also thought of learning this on pan flute

  • masya allah...

    wooooooooooooooooow..........

    cooooooooooooooooooooooool..

  • Mlf ( not Milf! ) is just out of this world, i thought he was meant to be launched on some very succesful career...were is he now?

Laughuing stacks is just so groovy and cool, shame he ain't playing like that with em Iguanas. Fantastic musician and touch in the hayday of picking frenzies and clichès! Baci

  • he has recently released a new album

    check it out

  • this is playing........

  • :o WOW

  • Love the fact I can see this here. I have loved this groove for years. So cool to actually see him do it live. I think this is such a monster-tasty, destroyer instrumental. Michael Lee is da s__t!!

  • are you retarded firkins is one of the best out there he ranks with becker via ect hes part of the genre

  • dude his awsome guitar player with very orignal songs and cool stuff but it anoiyds me that this crowd is soo weak ... no screaming yea or somthing not even 1 time...

  • sick

  • This guy's a killer player; great to see him tearing up a nice boogie!

  • This is great playing technique, feel, everything Just enjoy!

  • Bottom line...Stop worrying about others and give the guy the respect he deserves...The dude is off the hook.who cares who wrote it.Welcome to skill 101.

  • What is the name of Jasons Cd where everyone plasys on it...It is a shame...Jason of all players should be the on out there still playing...It makes you wonder if he was just to good to be true..

  • When you'll listen to Jason Becker's CD Perspective where Michael Lee plays the guitar solo you'll soon realize ( we hope so) that his style is is way different from Vai's one ... nameless punk narrow minded amateur...

  • Like I'd buy a Jason Becker album...pfft.

  • you're one of those guys who thinks carlos santana bending a note for 30 seconds is the pinnacle of guitar mastery, aren't you?

  • You're one of those guys who thinks playing connecting minor arpeggios or sequential 64th notes is absolute genius, huh?

No, I'd say if you want to hear genius listen to somebody like Allan Holdsworth or Jeff Beck. They're both the opposite of vapid or frivolous.

  • This song is neither of the things you mentioned - it's just a fun little tune. It's called "Laughing Stacks" and the sound is similar to laughter, musically. Look past the hair and the goofy 80s vibe, and it's really quite competent playing. Firkins is experimenting in the same way that Beck did. He had a musical theme and a goal for the sound beyond simple "shredding". Whether you personally like listening to it or not is a matter of taste.

  • Made me buy Pacifica. But I dropped it too many times and ruined it. It was the low end one anyway, not a good one.

  • damn...i love his beat

  • how did he get so lucky to play "end of the beginning" for jason becker?

  • they'r friends

  • thats cool... i would give up my ability to play just as long as jason could... he is my hero.

  • i think micheal.l.f is gona play on jason's new cd and on the best cd im not to sure

(gona have to read jasons blog again)

on the best album guitar solos by mary.f greg.h and i think joe.s and riche.k i cant remmber now

  • Well we may also say that Jason was lucky to have Michael Lee play the solo for him...it's just a marvellous solo

  • yes but jason was the one who wrote it

  • both Jason and MLF are great Musicians and Guitarist.

i just want to hear more about Jason Becker and Shawn Lane..some where on the Net Lane did an interview some where in china? or some Asian country(i think when he was in Jonas Hellborg) he said he Enjoyed Jason's Music the most had after hearing Perspectives he claimed that Jason is a true musical Genius and wished him the very best he clamied he has big big big respects for JB and looked at him as inspiration as a musician and as a person

  • WoW he is great!!

  • this guy is super tastey, fantastic melodic sense and pretty original riff, A+ from this guitar player

  • Wow amazing. I wasn't so familiar with Firkin's, but now I know I gotta check out more stuff. Awesome guitarist.

  • cliffs of dover sucks

  • Remind anyone else of Vai?

  • yeah reminds me of the audience is listenin by vai

  • Yeah. But Michael Lee Firkins is way more fun and has that cheeky little country feel. I prefer Vai, but Firkins here has a style of his own that not many other 'shredders' can say.

  • I bet he made Mr Cliffs of dover look like a kid and didn't even realise it.

  • cliffs of dover is a better song than michael's ever done.

  • well it's just an opinion.. no offence.

  • really...name mike's "best" song.

  • does anybody know where i find this songs ?

  • I met him late 1994. Told him he was my favourite guitarist and he looked at me "woh, thanks" like surprised. Seems that he didn't know he's a killer. Very cool guy, modest... Thanks for the videos..very cool.

  • download the complete video here:

  • I've always loved this song and wanted to play it. This is really cool :)

  • If you want tabs for this , buy the "hot licks video" Michael Lee Firkins .;)

  • Great song, anyone got a tab for this one?

  • dude you rock for finding this, i hope a vid of rain in the tunnel gets put up

  • 24 Grand Avenue!

  • thanks for posting this, you rule.

  • Oh man...great stuff! Killer playing. So tasty!

  • What is the name of the album this is on?

  • It's just called "Michael Lee Firkins" from Shrapnel Records.

  • WTF! I didn't know this gig existed! Great stuff... that ablum is still one of the best guitar albums i've ever heard!

I'd love to get this gig! The second he started the main intro riff brought big smile to my face! :-D

  • Dear God, where did this come from?!

  • I think it's from Japan...almost...at the end there is a girl speaking Japanese
