Why is there straw stuff on top of the soil? Is there a reason for that, or is it just for looks?

The straw is mulch to keep the soil moist - lets us water much less often, which is super important in this drought. Do you garden?

Yes! We have a little SunGold tomato growing - they taste like candy :-)
