  • hey nice vid good luck to matt, i really wanna go in the j.o olympics as a junior or senior been racing since i was 9, but i missed last season allso due to a skiing ingury, my neck but now im all good again!

  • Matt has also been injured. He was broke his leg training in Chile in August 2005 and had 4 surgeries. He missed 2006 season, then 2007 was relearning and getting back in shape. He then made the J1/J2 JO's in 2008. He is now on a skiing scholarship at Rocky Mountain College in Montana so there's proof that coming back from serious injury is possible! Best of luck to you!!

  • You must have been a J3 this year...Matt was a J1 so he went to the JO's at Mt Bachelor in 2008.

  • matt who? i ski out of Mt.Hood and I went to the 2008 JO's at Bogus Basin.

  • This was a USSA Western Region competition. This week Matt is in the 2008 JO's

  • Very nice. Awesome, keep it up. Looks like you have a real future in this sport! :)

  • technique reminds me of bode miller. love that!

  • what are his points?

  • Matt has now finished his season. He scored a 99 in a slalom and 103 in a GS as his best results. He ended the year at 116 SL and 110 GS. Also 129 in DH and 141 in SG. He has been bothered a bit by the screws and plate in his leg and we are scheduling to have surgery to take them out. We want to do it soon so he can get maximum dryland training in advance of his senior year. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your State HS Championship!

  • Very nice comeback! Funny, 4 months year after my daughter broke her leg playing soccer she qualified for JO's. I remember the doc saying her leg was everyy bit as strong as it was pre breakI I definitely miss her skiing days. Now that she's in college I chase her around the country at regattas!

    Ski fast!

    Keith

  • New update, The women's 2 GS races are back on.

  • Word is the Men's Eastern Cup races are delayed and with start on Monday instead of Saturday and the Women will only run the 2 SL races.(The 2 GS races and the SG are cancelled for the women.)

  • Heard the kids from Sugar Bowl Academy were coming east for the Eastern Cups this weekend (12/16/06) at Sugarloaf and Sunday River.

Great video by the way, hope Matt has another great season

  • Yes. Very true. Several SB Academy athletes are on a plane (right now, as a matter of fact!) headed for Eastern Cup. Matt is very excited as it's his first FIS races after missing last season with rehab. Thanks very much and best of luck to you too.

  • My daughter will be at Sunday River, she is a New Hampshire skier. I will be checking men's results... hope Matt does well. Has he ever raced in the east?

I heard about the kids from Sugar Bowl Academy coming east through a women who works with my husband. Her duaghters attend Sugar Bowl Academy and are racing in the Eastern Cup at Sunday River.

  • did matt ever get in.... my best friend mallory goes to sugar bowl academy. looks like matt is really good and had a great season!

  • Yes. Matt is at Sugar Bowl Academy. Mallory is right across the hall from him. Matt is in his 4th year at the Academy. He's a Junior.

  • nice dude u out west or in in the miswest cuz i ski out here in ohio and it sucks but i go up 2 marquette, michigan for da JO qualifiers

  • Matt is at Sugar Bowl, California. The races in the video were in California except for the JO Slalom at Snowbird, Utah. Matt has been to Lutsen, MN twice for the Spring Series. Matt was born in Ohio (Dayton) and moved to California when he was 4 years old. He still cheers for all the Ohio sports teams though, including OSU, Reds, Indians, Bengals and Browns. Best of luck to you this season! Think Snow!!

  • Nice skiing, Matt. I used to race in the late 60's and the early 70's. I was really impressed with the 3rd place in the downhill at Mammoth. You obviously can ride a "quiet" ski which makes for a fast downhill.

  • Great skiing for a 15 year old! I´m born in 1989 and also in to alpine skiing, studying at The Ski Academy in Åre, Sweden. Have you heard about it? Did he get into any academy? I hope that his injury works out, i´ve been there done that. No fun at all... Please tell Matt to keep the good work up and that we´ll meet eachother later in the worldcup;)

    Yours sincerely

    Erik Segerström, Åre, Sweden

  • Erik, best wishes to you at The Ski Academy in Are! I understand that is a very fine place! Yes, Matt attends the Sugar Bowl Academy near Lake Tahoe, California. This is his 4th year at the school. I hope to someday see both of you in the World Cup!!

    -Mark Richardson, Petaluma, California, USA

  • In the viedo?

  • Matt was 14 in the video and turned 15 shortly after the final races of the season. He is now 16 and will be a 2nd year J2 this season but will have to claw his way back up the rankings after missing all of last season.

  • How old is he?

  • What mountain do u train on?

  • Hi. Matt trains at Sugar Bowl, California and attends Sugar Bowl Academy. He missed all of last season with a broken leg suffered in a training accident in Chile. After 3 surgeries and 12 months of rehab he returned to Chile again this August and is on track to return to a full race schedule this season.

  • Congratulations on a great 05 season Matt. Well documented too.

  • Thank you for the kind words. Hopefully the 04-05 season can be repeated as Matt returns from injury that lost the 05-06 season.
