oh ErictheJazzer, now you make me listen again and the tears come again - I will go back one day, just found my friend Barbara again on Facebook, she is still living there and we now talk a lot - I have been many places but Wales is the most beautiful - I keep telling people, Wales is not a part of England, it is a magical place with it's own identity- I am a Pryce and proud of it!
I'm so glad that you're a Pryce and proud of it. Pryce/Price is an old Welsh name. Good to know you.
Apart from Wales my land of birth and upbringing my favourite place much visited by me Italy. The thought came to me last night as I watched a t.v. programme about Italian architecture - my favourite variety. Wales - the Land of my Fathers; Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau - and Italy are not only wonderful countries but most importantly they are EMOTIONS !
The first girl that I kissed properly was from Cardiff. I've never forgotten her. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Welshmen like all women. Englishmen do not, preferring the company of their mates and their beer. That's why Welshmen find it so easy to steal their women and so save them an inevitable fate of death by boredom. In fact, Englishmen prefer boys and sheep to women. That's why Welshwomen and those Englishwomen who run off with us smile so much. We give them all out attention.
@ErictheJazzer ......Well butty us Taffys, Paddys and Jocks are well recived by the ladies here in Denmark.....I been told its cause we got that Celtic passion and most of us know how to treat a Lady ( They still all look when I open a door or hold the chair for my Mrs when she sits down at the dinner table or give up my seat on a bus ! )
I know exactly what you mean. A Neath no-good-boyo, I lived and worked in Helsingborg, Sweden for 3 years in the 1980s. Usually went over The Oresund to Copenhagen by car ferry most weekends. I too noticed the (mostly) surprised looks on Swedish and Danish womens' faces when I opened the door for them, stood up in a restaurant when they came to my table and allowed them to go through doors first - that's the biggest surprise to them. We are charmers alright !
I need to go back to Wales - I was not born there but still feel like i was and I cry - what's up with that?? The moment I first entered Wales I felt I had been there before - perhaps a reincarnation of my Welsh ancestors or a gift from God - lived in Cardiff, Roath Park - omg - and, Donny sang it well!
Why thank you for the response to my comment - are you a member of Morrison Orpheus??? You should join me on Facebook as I assume you are there in Wales and I am not-lol- Welsh friends always welcome - I just listened to this again and yea, tears -
I have a belief that each of us carries a genetic memory. In your case you have inherited memories of Wales from your ancestors. Don't ever worry about being emotional about the land of your ancestors. The grass IS greener there, the people enjoy a wonderful banter in conversation and they are VERY friendly to strangers, contrary to what the inadequate English like to claim.
I know Roath Park in Cardiff very well. I used to row on the boating lake there as a teenager.
He don't need to stuffs leeks down his pants butty ! he's got Welsh blood not " Saes " !, give the boy a sheep an he'll show you how to " rock n roll " ! Well done Donny, Cymru
I don't know, I really hope so, because your language is so beautiful! I was wondering about my saying the words right too, since I have no teacher and the net is the only source. Perhaps you could give me an opinion, as a native speaker (just don't ask me to sing, I'm a total disaster!). I'd love to learn how to speak properly!
But are you really pronouncing the words correctly I wonder. Eastern European people find English words difficult at times so I'd love to think they had mastered Welsh!!!!! Anyway the fact is Welsh is a difficult language and when pronounced correctly by a forigner it is admirable.Donny did a great job and was obviously coached by a Welsh person.
Not necessarily was he coached. I am self-taught and accomplished enough to have fooled many a native speaker. Donny Osmond, on the other hand, may be simply adept as I am, or it could be his being of Welsh descent through his mother - there may have been some exposure in his early years.
Sorry, but there is no way you could be perfect. Maybe the Welsh speakers you speak to are just being polite. My father speaks seven languages from Russian and Italian to Welsh and German but nevertheless even he would admit that certain words he may not pronounce exactly as a native, unless of course he was told. As it is his business he needs to get it right. Believe me Donny is a Pro and it is his business also and I am sure he would have been coached. Could we just leave it there now please!
It doesn't matter whether he was coached or just learned it himself - point is that he DID IT. It's the principle of the thing (would you sing Frere Jacques in English if you were in France? Of course not, that would be silly).
Mate, I couldn't give a monkeys. If you read my first comment you will see I was congratulating him it's the other nutters who make comments. Oh and yes he sings it well, he was coached as he is a pro so what the heck, who cares, move on.
If threre's one thing in the Welsh mentality that seperates us Taffys from the rest is that when it comes to the Welsh language, HE DID HIS BEST TO SING IN WELSH WHEN MANY OTHERS COUL'NT GIVE A SHIT !
Why are you saying it's very hard to pronounce? I love this song so much I managed to learn the lyrics, and I'm from Eastern Europe... It's so romantic and sad!
that brought a tear to my eye , I knew he had Welsh heritage that he should sing the verse in welsh, so beautifully and so perfectly is very emotional for me , thank you who ever posted this, an expat, now living in Spain.
Well, the Osmond family ARE Welsh-Americans.. Whether you realize it (or if even they realize it-- LOL).. I'm not sure how much of a connection their family still has with Wales; But everytime there is a list of famous Welsh-Americans, they always mention the Osmond family.
Actually its quite poignant that Donny Osmond chose the song "Myfanwy".. The Osmond family originally came from Merthyr Tydfil (probably a couple of generations ago).. It was the same county where Joseph Parry, the composer of "Myfanwy", came from as well. Donny was probably aware of this I imagine, and chose this song for that very reason.
wow!! im not really a donny fan however, that was amazing!!! anybody can sing it in english, any welshman could sing it in welsh, but a non-englishman singing it in welsh with so much emotion and really understanding the meaning on the song - hats off to him!! Wales love ya Donny bach!!
Good on the lad!
